There is no set length...as in inches when it comes to a bridlepath.
It really depends on the breed, the event, and the look you want to achieve.

I have had them just a inch or two so the bridle's crownpiece would have a nice flat place to set....all the way to several inches to create the illusion of the horse having a finer (thinner) throatlatch

Some owners cut the mane to accentuate it's throatlatch and enhance the area where the head joins the neck, for when the horse is presented in halter or set up in a bridle.
In general, if your horse has a nice throatlatch, you cut the bridle path shorter to draw the eye to it. If the horse's throalatch is rather thick and not exactly that shapely, then you trim the bridlepath a bit futher back to create the illusion that it is thinner than it really is, and use the long mane to draw the eye away from that area.
It all depends on what the owner prefers and what will enhance their horse.

I don't make the bridal path go so short that there is absolutely no hair left. But that's because I don't show. I just do it until theres little stubby hair sticking out. THe hair should not be long at all. This is so the bridal can sit more comfortablly on the horse's head.

Pull your horse's ear back, and that's the length it should be

I prefer my horses to have the bridle paths. It is much easier to get the halters and bridles on without the mane getting in the way. There are some breeds that aren't supposed to have them. I take care of a lot of Andalusians and Peruvian Pasos and they keep the manes. Boy, it's a pain in the neck getting their halters on!!! I don't have clippers, so I just use scissors.
