Personally I feel that Appaloosas and Paints just don't mix. You get to jumbled a pattern and roaning from the appaloosa makes paint markings dissapear.

I'm also against breeding Grey appaloosas and paints and double dilute appaloosas and paints. My personal take on this is " WHY breed for a specific patterning if the color will 'wash it away" Now don't get me wrong, I"m not a breed for color at all costs person, I believe that conformation and temperment are first and foremost important, but the color and pattern are high on the list when breeding for patterned horses.
Anyway Basically I'd rather breed Paints/pintos to other paints/pintos and appaloosas to appaloosas. I'd rather preserve the patterns the way they are and not try and combine them.

That is just my preferences and I sure won't be looking to buy any pintaloosa breeding stock. I'd pick one up as a rescue, but wouldn't be breeding any crosses.

I agree that breeding a color patterned breed to a grey is not a good idea and my personal opinion is why wasted a breeding doing it? The graying gene is simply going to make to pattern disappear.
As for the "designer breeds".....unless that particular mix is very popular in your area and there are a lot of registry related shows and activities available to you...then I personally would not do it.
I advise anyone considering breeding one of these "designer breeds" to really check them out first. See what the registry has to offer....many just offer a piece of paper and that's it.
