Breeding schedule

I am breeding two,for the lack of a better word "virgins" today unfortunately the more experienced mare is not showing any signs of heat yet. Anyways, I am a newby breeder, what is the best schedule? once a day for 3 or 4 days or every second day ? any tips are welcome. Also, should I bother to wrap the stallions tail as well?
BTW, they will be hand bred.

Thanks

I've helped a friend of mine with her mini mares, she breeds them every other day until they don't stand for it anymore. It sure wouldn't hurt to wrap his tail, I've seen a cut on their "parts" from tail hair (probably was from the mare, but...doesn't take long to wrap a tail and you can leave it in for a week or two).

She had me outside of the arena gate holding my mare (Paint) inside, while she entered the arena from another gate and led her Paint stallion over to the mare. My mare is a very "accomadating" one and didn't move/kick at all. I felt this was a very safe way to hand breed, she didn't have to worry about where I was and could concentrate fully on the stallion.

We have done both, but the last time we did every other day and it worked. You will definitely know if the mare is not willing, she won't stand for him and is probably not at the right time. When they are ready they stand still and it should go pretty quickly, at least it did for us. It really helps if you can watch her closely to find the heat cycle, you will have a much better chance of conception if you are paying attention to where your mare is in the heat cycle, timing is everything.

EVERY OTHER DAY. Semen is a foreign object in a mare's body and can cause inflamation from an overload. And if both have never been bred before, and you've never bred, get an experienced person to handle the stallion. His tail doesn't need to be wrapped, but hers does and of course she (and he) both need to be washed and cleaned up before you breed.

Some mares won't show to certain stallions. Some need to go to the stallion, some need to have the stallion brought to them. Some are just plain silent mares and wont show.

All the farms Ive work for or with we cover mares every 48 hrs till they stand no more and dont cover on first day they tease, we wait another day till we started. This was going on a cycle without U/S, if we had access to U/S even if we were live cover we didnt breed till they were a 38mm. Then give HCG. Then US 48 hrs to see if there was a CL, if not we covered again. Usually there was a CL however.

OK so that went really well. He was a gentleman walked up to her with the love talk and she stood willing and ready. As this was his first time he got a little confused as to where to put it ,had to pull him off her a couple times and then guide him in but it was all it went smoothly. She bled a little bit after but being a maiden that would be normal. I don't know if he actually got any sperm in her, when he came off he almost flipped over backwards. But he was a good boy. And she was awsome..
