Question Breeders sweepstakes nominating an Arabian horse!?? Prices anyone know??

Hey guys the mare I may buy is NOT breeders Sweepstakes nominated and for me this is bad, I really want and need her to be nominated all of my arabs have been.

I looked up what the pricing would be and I;m not sure I was in the right site, it was so so so expensive.

Anyone know how much it costs to sweepstakes nominate an arabian mare in canada, both for showing and for breeding purposes??? Thanks. Oh she is 7 years old.

thanks

If your going to show her now and breed her later....then one her parents need to be enrolled in the Sweepstakes and it will cost you $3500 to enroll her as a Original Entry... if you do it NOW as in BEFORE March 1, 2006....while the second chance special is still going on.......after that date it will cost you $15,000.
If you are purchasing the mare from the breeder you might want to discuss your needing to have her in the Breeders Sweepstakes program...maybe they will help you out a bit.
Quote:
Original Entry - $3,500

$2,500 if the horse is by a Nominated Sire or out of Nominated Dam
Second chance for those who forgot to enroll an in utero foal as a Breeding Entry
Original Entries are eligible to win prize money in for that horses life
Original Entries are not eligible to compete in the Regional and National Yearling Sweepstakes Breeding Classes or the Regional Arabian Two-Year-Old Gelding In-Hand Class
All Original Entries will be $15,000 after March 1st, 2006
You do not really need to enroll your mare in the Breeders Sweepstakes Program to produce a Sweepstakes foal...to get a Breeding Entry you simply breed to a Stallion that is enrolled in the Sweepstakes and then enroll the foal as a Breeding Entry.
Quote:
Breeding Entry - $400
Enroll in utero foal by December 31st of the year the mare is bred
Most economical entry category
Purebred foals must be by a Sweepstakes Nominated Sire
Half-Arabian foals must be by a Sweepstakes Nominated Sire or out of a Sweepstakes Nominated Dam
Only entry category allowed to compete in Regional and National Yearling Classes
Entry Deadline - March 1st, 2006 - this year only
Late entries accepted through February 15 with $100 late fee. Total entry fee = $500 ($400 plus $100 late fee- must be postmarked by February 15)

OH NO! I wanted to show her for quite a while my main thing was I wanted a EP show mare . My country pleasure horse Troika is Sweeps and the money really helped when we won in regionals. I really wanted her nominated so when I showed in her in regionals and nationals I could get some money back.

I woudnt be able to nominate her untill after march 1st since I am not even seeing her untill then.

This really wrecks things I dont think I may buy her now

She would cost $5000 then to nominate her would be $15000 then all the training costs etc..... Her alone would be $20000 OMG

I really have to think this through, I think it mabe better to get a mare that is already sweeps nominated even if the mare cost a little more than her.

Darn I was soooooo excited

thanks guys

It does seem that March 1 is the deadline:
Quote:
Extended Deadline – March 1, 2006
This will be the last year to take advantage of these special reduced fees on Nominated Sires and Mares and Original Entries. PLUS, you can also enter a Breeding Entry for $400 with NO LATE PENALTY through March 1, 2006.
Breeding Entry $400
Nominated Sire $2,500 ($3,500 after 3/1/06)
Nominated Dam (Mare) $1,000 (new lower fee!)
Discounted Nominated Sire $1,500 ($2,500 after 3/1/06 (Colts enrolled as Breeding Entries are eligible for this category.)
Non-Arabian Nominated Sire $3,000 ($4,000 after 3/1/06)
Original Entry $3,500 ($15,000 after 3/1/06)
With all the changes made in the Sweepstakes program you would think that the breeders would be willing to enroll the horse before the deadline to help with the sale...if the seller is also the breeder of this mare, have you talked to them about it?

That is ridiculous prices for nominating an arab! So much for promoting the breed! It's too bad your mare you wanted is not sweeps stake nominated, in the end it will cost you over $20,000 just to buy and nominate her.

Yes, that is a lot of money, but you have to remember that the payback can be very rewarding if your Arabian showhorse is a good one! It is possible to win back your money spent nominating your horse in one show season...and remember once your horse is enrolled it can win Sweepstakes money for the rest of it's life.

Estimated Net Allocated Payout per Sweepstakes Class...
On the Regional Level for an Arabian it is $2,760 with the Total Net payout being $687,875
At the Canadian Nationals it is $5,962 with the Total Net Payout being $82,545
The US Nationals for an Arabian it is $17,885, with the Total Net Payout being $440,240
Quote:
How much can I expect to make??
Currently the Sweepstakes Commission estimates that payouts will be approximately $9-$10 per point. Below is the chart for the estimated Allocated payouts, Points Payout will be earned by the top six placings at the AHA local level shows/events. You will earn one point for yourself and one point for every horse you place above.
At Regionals the Top Five or 50% of the number of horses in the class will earn Points and when applicable Allocated Payout, and at the Nationals the Top Ten or 50% of the horses in the class will earn Points and when applicable Allocated Payout.

**Please see: http://www.arabianhorses.org/activit...ps_howmuch.pdf
for per class, per placing breakdown of payout.**

So how does this work for me??
Below is a sample of what payout you may earn in different situations.

If you show only local shows- Hometown Arabian and Half Arabian Spring show:
Place 1st in Arabian Western Pleasure AAO out of 5- Earn 5 pts
Place 3rd in a Arabian Hunter Pleasure AAO out of 9- Earn 7 pts

Hometown Arabian and Half Arabian Summer show:
Place 5th in Arabian Hunter Pleasure AAO out of 15- Earn 11 pts
Place 3rd in Arabian Hunter Pleasure AAO out of 10- Earn 8 pts
Place 6th in Arabian Mare Breeding 2+ out of 7- Earn 2 pts

Hometown Arabian Fall Classic Show:
Place 2nd in Arabian Hunter Pleasure AAO out of 7- Earn 6 pts
Place 7th in Arabian Mare Breeding 2+ out of 7- Earn 0 pts
Total 36 pts

36 pts x $10 per point= $360 in payout!
Payout if the horse is not enrolled in the Points Payback program= $0

I can see that the payout is rewarding, but for somebody who just wants one mare to show, what are the chances that this person will make the $15G back in the show ring?

Well...it depends on the mare and the person who has it.
I do know that it is possible and with the changes made with the Sweepstakes program even more people stand an even better chance to win Sweepstakes money.
Naturally it is ideal to buy a horse that is already enrolled...but there have been cases where people found a super (Regionals & Nationals Competitor) horse that was not and did pay the higher fee....and it did pay off for them.
I do know that if I was looking for an Arabian to buy & show right now that it would have to be enrolled in the Sweepstakes program. It just makes sense to me to buy a horse that can help make a bit of money to pay for my hobby and the AHA Sweepstakes program is money waiting to be won!

Shew I don't think it would financially it would be worth it to nominate a mare unless she was just the exceptional in competition. I know the money is nice in competing but are you really comepting for the money? I mean I know it helps don't get me wrong but I wouldn't let that slow me down on a quality horse. You can always get a sweepstakes foal out of a sire from her... Good Luck!
