Breeches - T.S. and other brands

I've been looking around for a really nice pair of show breeches. I tried on a pair of Tailored Sportsman and I honestly was really disappointed! I loved the material, but I found their proportions were really weird. Maybe they're best suited for a certain type of body, but I found they were narrow at the waist and big in the leg! I'd go up a size and they'd be too big in the waist and leg, and down a size they'd be nice in the leg but too small in the waist. And the bigger size I felt were too high on me, even though they said Low Rise. I tried on a pair of Grand Prix breeches and I LOOOVED them, but they only had one size in the colour I like and it was just one size too big.

I don't think it would be worth buying the larger size in the Tailored Sportsman and getting it taken in. They're still about $160 on sale... which is a lot, seeing as I just splurged on show clothes. Are there any other good brands out there that I'm missing? I'm going to call two other tack shops to see if they have the Grand Prixs in my size and colour, but aparently at Greenhawk they've not been getting a lot of them in stock at all.

Have you tried the Ariat side zips? I use the Sport Select for practice and Pro Circuit for shows. They are both 4 way stretch material like the Supreme Hunter TS's.

I'm rather...well, tiny. I'm 5'4" and 95lbs with no hips, no thigh, and no butt...Tailored Sportsman's is all I'll wear to both school in and show in.

Although I end up in Child's sizes () I still have to have my TS's altered in the upper leg to cut down on the bulk in the butt and thigh -- they really are made for those with a butt and thigh.

Check eBay - I've gotten some amazing deals on TSs which makes the altering even more worthwhile

Try the high end ariats, they may fit your body type better. They look the same, are equally nice at 220$ I think their name is "Pro Circuit"

Ditto on try the Ariats, but also in the TS I find that the Royal Hunter and the Supreme Hunter models both fit me differently. Did you try both?

In what way were they big in the leg?

I got a pair of Devon-Aire hipster breeches, and I love em. They're so comfy and they fit me so well (and I'm not exactly in shape lol).

I have a pair of Pytchleys which I don't think is around anymore, but I *think* it's now the Platinum Performance (??) brand. Similar look, much better fit for me, to the TS. And, even now I think they are just under $100.

I didn't realize they came in different models, I have no idea which one I tried on! Maybe I should look more into that. I find the two stores closest to me do not have a great selection, so I might have to go way out to Apple Saddlery to try them out. They weren't really big in the leg, I meant more like the crotch. I tried on one size and it was too big in the crotch but fit okay at the waist and leg, then the smaller size was too small in the waist but fit my leg fine. I guess I need to do better research! I don't want to just get a nice cheap pair, I want to get ones that fit me perfectly (even if a few alterations are needed) and that'll last a long time for showing.

I can see how they would fit you well then! I notice all the people wearing them at shows have pretty narrow bodies. They would fit me fine if I didn't have as much bulk around my waist! Maybe I just need to do a few sit ups!

I did not see any Ariat breeches at Greenhawk, but I'm going to go out to Apple Saddlery soon to look around. I'm hoping it's not too late in the season to find some. I don't know if I'm prepared to spend $200+ on breeches. The Grand Prix ones I found fit amazing and were $130. However, the Pro Circuit Ariats look REALLY nice!

Remember these types of breeches are supposed to fit loosely in the crotch/thigh area. They aren't meant to cling like the cheap cotton breeches.

The Royal Hunters are cheaper than the Supreme's... from the price you said earlier, it sounds like you tried on the Royals. I have a pair of Royals, a pair of Supremes, and a pair of Supreme Pro's. The Pro's (my favorite!)are lighter weight and low rise but still have the 4 way stretch.
