I would imagine that with a typical 'cushings' coat, he would be very hot in your area at this time of year. Have you taken his temperature? If he's hot enough for it to be elevated there are some real issues. That just seems like the most obvious thing to me, though it could certainly be many other things as well.

Hopefully the clip will help him out.

Since I clipped him, I can "see" him better. He does not have a heave line. Phew! His hair was a good inch at least. My poor clippers got a little hot a couple of times! I would imagine he's a lot more comforatable now. He's got a couple of white spots I didn't see before.

I'll double check with the vet tomorrow when I talk with her about his test results. I'm not sure when they will be ready but I'll call and bug her anyway
