biggs has a high wither, its an nsh thing, his saddle fits well and all, it just sl;ides back, i resorted to a riser, but it wasn't even quite big enough to boost it up to be even with his wither, the only problem i have with breast collars, i feel like if were on course or something and my saddle does its slip back i feel bad having the breast collar pressing to tightly against his chest, is it something i should worry about orrr how should i go about this?

I wouldn't be concerned about what your concerned about unless you were riding for a long time. They do make breast collars with elastic in them but of course then they don't hold the saddle in place as well either. I would be more concerned with your saddle not fitting. Which it doesn't if it's sliding back and it especially doesn't fit if your using a riser and that still won't make the seat of the saddle level. You could be placing the saddle too far forward also and that will make it pommel high as well. But if that's not the issue then the saddle is probably too narrow. That problem is compounded by thick pads and ESPECIALLY riser pads. As a riser pad lifts the back of the saddle it tilts the front of the saddle downward. This causes the points of the tree to dig pressure down into the horses soft tissue. Ditch the riser and figure out what the saddle fit problem is, then you won't have to bother with a breast collar at all.

Regardless of his wither height, it shouldn't have any affect on whether or not the saddle stays properly in place. The two biggest possibilites are too narrow of a saddle or placed too far forward (very common problem). Are you using a front riser or a rear riser pad? |

I agree with dawn, size of the withers doesn't have anything to do with your saddle staying in place. If your saddle fits properly and is placed correctly, it won't slide back. The front d-rings should be 2-3" BEHIND the back edge of his shoulder blades. If you place the saddle there and it hits his withers, then you need a saddle with a more cutback pommel to allow for room for his withers.
