Question breast collars????

What is the reason behind a breast collar and why was it invented?? Anyone know??? Some people seem to think its only for direction, is this true?? I on the other hand believe its used for when your doing a high performance sport and need that extra stablity for your saddle to always stay in that same position! Tell me what you think its for and if it has a purpose or its just there for looks!!

A Proper fitting saddle should need depend on the Breat collar to stay in place..

No Ride should depend on a breast collar to keep there saddle from moving around.

I posted this in the other one too!

Where i live i barley see a barrel racing without a breast collar---We use them all the time in speed---here is a pic of me and my horse doc-My color's blue!

Also you usually always use a breast collar when a horse has high withers--my mum's horse had high withers and if we didn't have one on then the saddle would move back---it wasn't from the saddle not fitting cuz we had it fitted to her.

Everyone here uses one during speed events. I never had a problem with my saddle slipping, uless I was barrel racing.

One example was I went around the first barrel (saddle slipped. I corrected it by shifting my weight and caught Misty off gaurd. She had to basically stop and shift her weight. I believe this could have been stopped somewhat by a breast collar.

I totally agree, my saddle doesnt always slip and actually rarely does but theres the odd time it does so why risk loosing or making a horrible run just because i didnt have my breast collar attached why not wear it all the time incase something comes loose or something happens! Thats what they were made for to help when the saddle slips!!

Breastcollars are often used in fast-paced events such as barrel racing, roping, and reining. They keep the saddle from slipping and, in the event that a cinch fails or comes loose, can provide support.

a rider should not depend on a breast collar to sto your saddle from slipping. If something goes wrong and that collar breaks you are in a whole lot of trouble. i do barrel racing all the time and not once have i used a breat collar on my horse. and not once have i had any problems. and ive been doing it for over 15 years with him

there are tons of people that DO NOT use one. tons of people. and i am not talking about little gymkanna stuff. to each is own on how they want to run your horse. Second you should never attach your breat collar to the same place as your latigo.. your saddle should always have another loup further up for it. Otherwise it falls down on the front shoulder.
