| Senior Member | Breast Collar Help !!!
Okay, I asked this question as part of another post and no one has answered me so I thought I would try again. I recently switched from English to Western. Yesterday my friend who just bought her first horse and I went to the tack shop. I bought a black and silver headstall with matching breast collar. The breast collar has the "tugs" to attach to the saddle, but the part that attaches to the girth has a buckle but is just one contiuous piece of leather with no end to undo it????? I went and looked at the breastcollars that Stateline had and some others and they all showed them having a snap on the part that attaches to the girth! I am surprised that this set would be missing it b/c it is in great shape and has the tugs? Can someone PLEASE tell me if I am just not understanding how to do it, or if it is missing the girth snap.

I'll probably have to recharge the darn batteries in the camera, but then I will post a pic. I am so frustrated that I can't figure this out!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for responding. I'll go check the camera batteries......

You thread the girth/cinch between the two pieces of leather. If you don't understand I can post a pic of my girth and breastplate later.

You just need the snaps, most breast collars come without the snaps, you just need to add them.

Went to the grain store and picked up a snap, it's the type that is like the one on the side of a halter. Problem is I don't see anyway to get it on? Harli36, I wondered about doing that, putting the cinch between the two pieces of leather! Since I can't figure out a way to add the snap, Shotgun I am Blonde.....I guess I will have to do it the other way. On another note, I recently posted about the problems I have with my QH, Copper. He just wants to go fast all the time, too fast. I mentioned that I was feeding him and the Appendix oats, and after several people on here and some friends advice, I have bought a 10% grain to begin switching them over to. I figure it can't hurt to try it. I am starting lessons on Wednesday, and the trainer agreed to get them off the oats. I hope it helps!

I buy the snaps that are snap on both ends, so that it can clip on the breast collar and the cinch.

Granted I ride English mostly and it's been YEARS since I've seen a breast collar that has the snap on it. But from what memory recalls the snaps were already on there when the breast collar was purchased. Based on the first picture (I can't see the other two clearly enough) your collar is exactly like my collar and I have no idea how you would attach a snap to it unless you had a snap that has a buckle on it. And we've ridden in Western gear like this as well. Shotgun we have always strung the girth through the loop at the bottom. Do you have a picture of how you would attach to it and/or how it attaches? You have me wondering now if I've been doing it wrong. ***Edit to add....***** Never mind I reread your post and I know what your talking about now. I've seen people do that but it is not necessary and that's not how that particular kind of collar was designed for. I thought that there was a special breast collar attachment that you need to buy seperate. That's why I was confused I had never heard of that before.
