Smile A Brand new blue eyed filly and color question.

My mom's mare had her filly in the wee hours of the morning. My mom checked on her at 3am and there she was. I'm glad she was able to do okay with her foaling. Most of the time they do, just the scary stories that really freak ya out. Besides it's neat to be there to witness the miracles of life.

I've never seen a palomino born but I think that's what she would be with two pretty blue eyes. Tuffy (the mare) has shed out really dark this year. Would you call that a smooty buckskin? Would that be an affect of countershading?

She has a little spot on her side. My mom touched it and got her to wiggle. So now it's her ticklish 'spot' LOL. We just crack ourselves up

This is what she thought of her personal camera time

Awww....so cute.... not sure of the color, but is a real cutie. It's so hard to tell when they're little what they will be when they grow up too . Anyway, good luck and enjoy that baby...

Congrats on the beautiful filly!!!!

The mom definately looks like a smutty buckskin. Do you know what color the filly's sire is? I would say she's a Palomino... Palomino's are often born with blue eyes, but they change pretty quickly. My colt had dark blue eyes at birth and now they're hazel...

Could be many things.

Buckskin or palomino would be my first two guesses.

because she is a paint, I would't take the eye color into the guessing process.

What color was daddy?

I can see Tuffy being possibly a Dark Buckskin.....

It isn't that far of a throw with the shade patterns she has.

She's just too CUTE!!!

Yes, what color is Dad?

I would say however that she is palomino. If she were buckskin, there would be darkier hairs in her mane (can't see her tail well enough), and her skin wouldn't be pink. Pali's and chestnuts are born with pink skin nearly all the time.

The sire looks to be a smutty buckskin also. Very copper/gold color on body and a lot of dark on his face. Her tail is gold colored like her mane.
