Brand help please

Does any one know how to research brands. My mare has one and I'd love to find out more about it.

There is lots more information needed to be of help... Where was the horse raised or trained? How old and what breed is the horse? Where are the brands and how many? That will help determine if it is a ranch brand from raising or a brand that was put on by the trainer?

What state did the horse come from? Many brands are not registered and many brands my appear to be just like another brand in another state. My friend in California has a horse with an MM brand on it for a different place than the MM brand from my vets place here in MO. They are very similar in look.

I don't know much about this mare as she is a rescue. I got her from a appy breeder. She had been given to him as a foal. She was really skinny and un handled. He got her healthy and haler broke, sold her to a family as a 2 yo. He went to check up on her a yr later and found her in really bad health again. He contacted me to see if I wanted her. If not he was going to put her down. Long story short I took her and she is my best friend. He said that the brands were on her when he first got her. I have done most of her training and last year I had a trainer work her for 30 days. She could have been born somewhere here in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico or Utah as I am in the four corners area. She could have possiably come from a Reservation. As far as breed goes its your guess. She is 13 HH and could possiably have Mustang and a gaited breeed in her. What do you see?

If there is a brand that contains an "N", That is the brand for the Navajo reservation. I have a copy of the NM brand book at work. If you will post her brand as best you can I can try and look it up tomorrow while I'm at work.

I wonder...... is it a hot brand or a cold brand?

A hot brand leaves a scar in the shape of the iron used.

A cold brand doesn't leave a scar, but the hair grows back "white"

Without knowing what the brand looks like or where it is on the horse there is really nothing that can be answered. Please try to post a photo of it.

I am off tomarrow so I'll get pictures. She is fuzzy for winter but I'll try. It is a hot brand on her hip. No N on her. If I have to I'll draw it. Thanks I'm getting excited at just the thought of finding more info on the girl.
