Free choice hay and phsyllium are the best for sand. Bran does nothing. Talk to Dennis, he will tell you not to bran. According to a vet that I work for, the University suggests that we in SW Florida feed 2 cups of the powered physllium once a week for the removal of sand. They say that once a month treatment 1) leaves to much time between treatments and lets sand build up and 2) the little cup that comes with the sand clear and stuff isnt enough. I also like Sand Trap....just feed more then then the little cup.

Bran does NOTHING to remove sand. Agree with Ryle and JB&Rio that Psyillium, Hay and or Flax are better choices.

The barn I was at before I moved out here would do 1 plastic sc. wheat bran + 1 plastic sc. oats/per horse in the barn for a bran mash every Sunday evening. (I'm using the referral "plastic sc." since you said you used a "scoup" and I'm guessing we're referring to the same/about the same amount)

The horses love it! But I don't know how much it did for sand removal. We had VERY sandy conditions where we were at though, and never had a problem with any of them. Thank goodness!
