what braids can i do for a thick mane that i cant pull?

Im a mane puller, then plaiter. I sew my plaits in, just the usual everyday plaits you see everywhere. Nobody around here plaits any other way, and then i see all these other different plaits you guys do in your horses manes, well they look great!

I just brought a new horse, 2yo filly. She is a section D welsh cob, and for welsh shows, her mane is unplaited and natural. Now regardless of this, she has the most AMAZING mane and forelock, its so thick and curly, and just, WOW! ill try take a pic for you guys, ive only had her 24 hours.

And even though its so cool i leave her mane natural for welsh shows, which only come up 2 times a year, all the other hack shows in between, i need to plait her! And her mane is at least 40cms long and three times thicker than usual. Because she is a cob and will have feathers and everything, i could leave her unplaited and she would probably still look totally breathtaking (i hope, i have big plans for her! Lol), is there any braid i could do without having to pull her mane? Like i know the running braid that sits on the side, but ive seen this other braid and its like, right on top of their mane and goes in one big braid the whole way down, like a human braid. What is it called? Any braiding suggestions for a thick unpulled mane would be great!!

I'd put it in a running braid with forelock unbraided. The one you're talking about is an extremely tight running braid.

u could just do the normal hunter type plaits but dont make them as wide. that way u will still get the same affect they will just be more narrow.i no a lot of people with welsh cobs that have 2 do that.

Just leave her natural, no matter the show native ponies are always shown totally natural.

Looks much better than trying to do any other plaits.

I truly agree as I have a Mountain Pony that my daughter shows and they should be left natural, as the more you try to make the plaits/braids nice and tight, the more they look messy.

I'd say to leave it natural, or do a running braid on the side.

Personally, I would leave it natural...it sounds gorgeous!!

It sounds like it would look amazing just leaving it natural, but if your really worried about it you can do what everyone else said and do a running braid.
