Braids and Cloth.

So I was given tons of good ideas about how to keep those dreadlocks out of Chloe's mane. Of course, after all my hard work of getting them out, I go back to the barn to see that someone has taken the braids out and her mane is back in dreads once more.

Anyways, I was given the idea of braiding shreds of cloth into her braids and told that would help keep the chance of dreads down. I'm not quite sure how you would braid the cloth in though. So if someone could explain it, or show pictures, or send me the link to an explanation, that would be great!

Is this your horse? If someone is taking out the braids and she is your horse, I would leave a complaint. If she isnt your horse and they are taking the braids out they probably don't want them in. I dont think braiding cloth in would make much difference from regular braids. Could you pull her mane or do you like it longer?

The manes that I saw braided were done up with old ripped up tee shirts, they took a nice 20 inch strip, and folded it in two, started the braid, and added the cloth, splitting the two parts, to braid into the mane...if that makes sense, it's hard to explain, and I don't have any pictures..Cathy

Ditto on what codyntampa said....if she's your horse, they shouldn't be touching her mane. If she's not yours, go to whoever you need to and ask about keeping her mane in braids.

To elaborate on what xiphias said... when you split the hair into 3 sections, place the folded in half piece of cloth so that the fold is at the top of the middle section, and you have the two free ends at the first and third section, braid normally just including those 2 free ends in the mane as if they weren't even there. You can then use the extra of the cloth to wrap around the end of the braid and tie it off. The braiding action will keep the fold locked at the top of the mane and the cloth tight in the braid.
