Braids????????

Hi Everyone,

Why does everyone think they have to briad there horses main and tail and bag it when tehy are out in the pasture it makes no sense to me. Cause if you think about it they don't have bags and braids in the wild. I know when they are out they get tangles in there hair and they also get stuff stuck in there main and tail but that is no problem just seperaight the hair and get whatever is tangled in the hair and then brush really good and it will look like new. The only time i used briads in my horses tail and main was over night to make his hair look nice for the show i was taking him in and when the show started teh braids came out. In my opinion i don't think horses like having bags around there tails adds more weight and it feels funny that is probubly why some people on here are having problems with getting it in bags.
I also don't understand why people pull the manes and tails of horses. I never did it with my horse i loved his mane and tail the way god made it. I know some horses need it cause they have alot of extra hair but why do it to the horses that don't need it. They are beautiful the way there were made.

I am not trying to be mean i just don't understand all this bag and braiding and the pulling o manes and tail stuff.

If anyone lets the horses tails and main along like god made them please put comments in.

Thanks
Drafty

They do it to nice show horses so that they don't get any hair pulled out and their tail stay's gorgous and even. I used to go to fancy saddleseat barn and they did it to ALL the horses, even during lessons

i dont do it, but i could see why. Im constantly pulling burs out of my horses mane and its hard to get out tangles. Some people show alot too and maybe they dont have a hour to untangle. I dont bag my horses tails either so im not sure. But it seems logica sorta

I braid and bag my horses tail in the winter, she has a very thick tail, and gets witches knots in it at the blink of an eye that take hours to comb out. She does not mind the tail bag one bit, or she'd rip it out, trust me. I don't bag her tail in summer when she uses it for flies because she isn't a show horse, but sometimes I will braid the base of it to keep those darned snarls out. I will also braid her mane when time allows because it gets pretty nasty too.

As far as pulling and the rest goes, my other horse is a show horse. She gets her mane pulled, and it does not bother her, and it makes doing her hunter braids alot easier. Polly enjoys her beauty treatments, actually they both do.

Wow, I'm so not getting into the "the way god made it" part of this discussion...

I have been known to braid and bag my horse's tail because it keeps breakage down to a minimum and helps it to grow longer and thicker. I'll probably put it up for the winter before too much longer... I like long, pretty manes and tails! If my filly had more tail to work with I'd put hers up too!

I never do. Although i'm thinking of getting one fr misty when she is in the tralier so it doesn't get quite so bad. I ashamed of it but yeah alot of the time my horses have burs It is from one paddock and i can't seem to kill all the burs

Also my horses EAT the burs and apparently they are good for the horses and are tasty too I'm debating if we should reseed or leave the burs

no seriously they stand there in a field of grass and EAT burs.

it is soo funny watching them. They curl up their lips and expose their teeth. Then they ever so slowly pick one off. Then they literally suc.k on it! It is funny seeing a burbush wit all the burse picked off of it

That visual is hilarious...

Your horses sound very reasonable... the old "every part of the buffalo" mentality. I have never seen anyone out of our herd eat them though... divas!

I'm just glad we don't have them at the barn where Allure is. Just out at the family place!
