Braiding With Yarn Question...

For those of you on here who use yarn to braid the mane, I was wondering if you braid the yarn into the mane.. or do you simply use it to tie of the end and then tuck under, etc?

If you've done both, what have you prefered? Just curious, because I'm trying to figure out how to do Babe's mane this summer.

definately braid the yarn into the mane... if you only tie it on the end it will fall out easier... if it's braided in it is held in there and has a stronger base of support.

Question, i have a whole movie on how to braid with the yarn. One thing i don't understand is how to tie the knot to tie the end off. Do you think you could explalin it better than the video? They show a million times on the video but i just can't get it.

I was taught to braid it into the mane, so that's how I've always done it. Compared to other people's braids, horses with the yarn braided in seem to stay in better than the ones who just have it tied on the ends.

As far as tying off, hold your left index finger next to the braid and pinch the bottom of the braid with your middle finger and thumb. Then take your other hand and wrap the end of the yarn around your finger and the braid clockwise, then pull your index finger away from the braid and put the end of the yarn into the little triangle that the yarn and the braid make. Pull the end of the yarn tight then let go of the braid.

i use yarn when doing the all english shows, but when i do the breed shows and stuff I just band it.

I use the same color as her hair(she is a paint so, she has both black and white) so the black parts I use black yarn, and for the white parts I use white yarn, but the parts where you get both black and white on the same braid i use whatever color is most in that particular part.
