The best thing ever -- orthodontic bands! Easy to put in like rubber bands, but they are tiny, so actually easier than rubber bands because you dont have to twist them around but a few times. I like them cause they are tough little things and don't snap in a day or two like my mane bands I bought.

The easiest most pain free way to get bands out is to use a seam ripper to rip/cut them out...it breaks the band like scissors, but you dont have to worry about accidentally cutting off a chunk of hair if your horse moves. And they are like 80 cents at Wal-Mart, so very cheap.

Hey, I never thought about that. There's a problem, though. I'm allergic to latex, so I have loads of latex-free rubber bands (I had braces for three very long years), but they break a lot easier than the latex ones.

That's a good idea about the seam ripper, too.
