When I braid and bag in the winter I leave it in for a month or so at a time As long as it stays neat and doesn't get snagged, they're fine.

Do you mean real show braids? I'd only leave those in for a day or two...

If you mean nice loose braids, I leave mine in for about a week, and the mane can stay for a month.

I keep the manes on both of my mares braided, because they get a lot of hay in it and it gets in their eyes, and I don't like cutting or pulling it.

I only unbraid it to brush it out and rebraid. And I am talking loose braids too.

I've had my horse's mane in long pasture braids for over 2 months now and it's fine. They're getting to the point where I need to re-do them, though. Probably a god project for tomorrow.

I have tried mane braiding before, but it has usually failed because I don't like how much mane comes out. My horse loves to roll and this is the reason why I thought the hair was coming out. Anyone who braids... do your horses lose a lot of mane? Would mane bags help? Lately with my horses blanket, her mane has become thinner where the long hair goes into the blanket. Help me please.

maybe if you would braid them into those dressage type braids, the ones were you braid the mane and then put it into balls on top of there neck. do you know what im talkin about? the only thing is is that you probly wouldnt be able to leave those in for a long time, and theyd have to be loose.

hope that helps a little =]

I definitely wouldn't do it in dressage braids. it would irritate the horse and break the hair. just leave the braids long.
