I am doing button braids this weekend and I was wondering how many should there be total? Thanks!

always an even number including the forelock. Either 11, 13 or 15 in the mane depending on how long your horse's neck is and how thick the mane is and then one in the forelock.

Also depends on what you want it to look like. For a horse with a shorter neck, smaller and more numerous braids make the neck look longer. Likewise, for a horse with a longer neck, less braids make it look more compact.

it doesnt really matter on the number of braids. it depends what your doing. if ur doing like the A circuit English pleasure saddle seat stuff theres probably a certain number and stuff but if its hunters or jumpers the judge really doesnt care they dont judge on how well ur braids are or how many, after your class they dont come and count your braids. xD

It don't matter how many, it matters how neat, and tidy they look on your horse! Cathy

As few as possible (LOL!!) Because I'm dealing with a super thick mane, I usually have to do about 13 or 15... I find that the braids are easiest to manage if the section I start with is about the width of four fingers. Any wider than that, and the crest is hard to keep flat and neat. |
