Braiding-How Many for You?

How many braids do you do in your horse's mane?(not including forelock)

I do 10-12. Fiona looks WORLDS better with only that many. I did 20 in her once and she just doesn't look as good...And it makes braiding easier...only about half an hour! LOL

The amount of braids I use are dependant on the length and conformation of the horse's neck. If I have a shorter necked horse, I use smaller plaits to make the neck look longer. If it is a long necked horse I use fewer larger plaits. I always have an odd number along the neck.

Just for everyday to keep the mane from breaking off at the ends, I do 6-8 really loose braids. Takes too long to do so many, just to take them out and re-do them again in a week. I'm not that patient :P If I want her to look nice and pretty, but don't want to leave her braids out, I'll do lots of long little braids.

On my pony we usually do 24-26 because his neck is longer and we want it to appear shorter. On other horses, around 30-40.

Me too.

Though on Astro and Rio I do 11-13...if the horse has the right neck for it, I much prefer bigger plaits and less numbers...I personally don't like the look of lots of little plaits.
