Well, for dressage I do roughly 15 to 18 on my horse. And those are nice sized braids (makes his neck look awesome!).

But then when I braid the ponies for the hunter ring I do between 20 and 30 braids depending on the pony.

It is correct to always have an odd number - 9, 11 or 13 is the normal accepted number (15 if your horse is REALLY long). an even number in the mane and then one in the forelock

Sly's neck is really long, I did 33 for our last show. I usually count out about 30 strings though. Cody usually only takes 25
