Braiding a long mane

Does anyone know of a way to braid a long mane so that it is suitable for a hunter/jumper show?

what i do is do like a french plate along the mane right up the top of the neck of the horse, runing down the hair line. its like a french plate but you do it right up the line of the mane

I used to use a running braid when I was in Hunter/jumper with my arab pony.

A running braid looks nice if its done neatly and properly.

Is this just a local/schooling show that you're going to?
