Braiding

Is there a easy, simple and definitely QUICK way to braid my horses mane for english shows?
He has absolutely no patience, and I've tried the french braid, but it comes out too easily. I've used to continential braid, but I was thinking of braid the whole maine, for hunter shows.

It takes me awhile to braid.
Thnx

i really dont think there is a quick way to braiding....if you harse is impatience....try braiding a few...untying him or uncross tying him...walking him around and corss tie him again...braid a few for more and then go for a walk again.. that might work.....sorry..i really wish i knew a quick way to braid....

Maybe braid him while he is eating and bound to be more content? Hang a hay net up higher and a bucket of oats with some large stones in it(fist size) so he can't gobble up his feed.

I used to braid my horse's mane in scallops for hunter classes. I've gotten mixed answers as to whether they're "proper" in the US or not (I'm in the US and like the scallops, but I think they originated in Europe).

To braid the mane in scallops, you typically need a longer mane than for the small "buttons". Take a chunk of mane, just like button braiding, and braid it all the way down to the end, and tie it off. Do this for the entire mane so you have a whole mane of long straight braids. You're horse will have to be somewhat patient for this, though, anyway (or you can take short breaks like Drunkenmimes mentioned).

Once you have all these braided strands, take the first one nearest your horse's ears and loop it up to the THIRD braid section and tie it tight to the top of that section (or through the section, to help it stay). Take the next section (the second one, the one you skipped), and loop it up to the FOURTH section. See how this works? Each braided section skips one section (the section right next to itself) and gets looped up and tied to the one following.

I think it looks very nice and neat, and is easier to do than making small buttons .
