Its definately too long for hunter braids. The mane should be about 4'' long for hunter braids. You can do a running braid for a schooling show. It's a neater look. If you want to keep it down instead of doing a running braid, I'd pull it a little bit just to clean up the bottom. =) Good luck at the show! |

| Senior Member+ | You could do a diamond "braid". Very simple to do and it takes about a half an hour to do 3 rows. I like to just do 2-3 rows but you can go all the way down the mane

| Senior Member | Just had to comment, this is the second time I've seen this type of braiding, the first was on a grey ( white ) horse and braided completely to the end, then sprinkled lightly with glitter. It was so beautiful .

EEEK. Glitter in the show ring is a no-no. Even if you are doing a schooling show, I wouldnt braid like that. I think it would look much neater if you just pulled it so the bottom is nice and tidy (not pulling to make it shorter). I'll get a picture of a running braid. They are seem often in the schooling shows..

I'd probably go with a running braid. Looks to be a fairly good length... but I'd put some gel or hair spray in it to keep it neat. Oh, and the fish-net/diamond braid is actually called a continental* braid. Here it is on my paint mare Lucky: ![]() Running braid: ![]() Web page with different braids and "how to show prep": http://www.raspberryridge.com/Kids-Mane%20Care.htm Good luck at the show! -Ashley
