Braiding

Does braiding a horses tail help it grow? What are some ways to braid it?

perosnally I think it does from my experience. I wash and condition mine and then braid it, leaving it in for about a week. Then I take it out and finger comb it and then once all the knots are out I will take a WIDE tooth comb to it. Then I wash it and condition it and braid it again. I always use mane and tail leave in conditioner as I think it works well. It also keeps it nice and soft. Also when braiding I leave about half a foot out so my horse can still swat flies.

I guess it does in a way. I mean if its braid and put up properly, the horse can't step on its tail and break it off, and its not so easy for pieces to get caught on objects. On the other hand the only way a horses tail can really grow is if its healthy, and is pretty much left alone. Braiding could cause breakage on it own. So my suggestion is to keep the tail conditioned aqnd put it into figure 8 knots. The knots keep it of the ground.

From my experience regular washing and conditioning and gentle combing is the best thing to do. I have friends who have their horses tails in a plait all the time and it causes alot of hairs to break off.
Maybe you could use a tail bag instead. o and regular trimming helps make the tail look thicker as well.

If you want your horse tail to grow bag it, some tail bags do require braids.
People usually braid so the tail doesn't get ripped out or messed with
