Parelli to me is more of an idea than a training method. I don't know about buying their stuff, I have a book and I watch him on RFD a lot. I am thinking about buying some dvds. I do however disagree with him on a few things and do them my own way. Training differs from horse to horse and person to person. So I mold my training sessions to fit my horses

But I LOVE the bond I have with my babies and anyone can do it with their horses simply by spending time with them. Obviously it helps if the horse is working with you instead of against you so it helps to find something the horse enjoys and work in that area

And we, as humans, don't deserve horses or their forgiveness but thank God they give it anyway! hehehe

I'm not a huge fan of any of the famous trainer guys. They might've started out with a good idea, but it's so commercialized now it's ridiculous.

Just my opinion. Please don't kill me.

I do however know that I need to put more time into my horse. I ride, yes, but anyone can do that. It takes a heck of a lot more effort I believe to BOND with your horse.

I love my Dillian pony. And I've had great relationships with horses I've worked with before. But, they've all been geldings. This is my first real experience with a mare.

I wanted a gelding, but I feel for Harlee. And I've been told mares make better horses. They'll give you more than a gelding will. That's just someone's opinion. He has told me that his mares have given him more in the long run than any gelding he's had. (And he's had A LOT of horses)

Very true, I think it is JBandRio that have a quote something along the lines of "Why don't horses just kill us and get their torture over with?" I think it is funny and backs up your quote of forgiveness
I believe that I would end up doing exactly that with some of his ideas, molding them to fit us...I should look into some of his books and see what I can apply, Thanks for the info!

shepherd406...I believe that, that mares will give you more, I think after the challenge of earning their trust they will do anything for you..I think it is different from geldings just because you really have to earn it instead of just being offered it
That was my point with think the hokey pokey...the 62.00 for a modified lunge whip aka a carrot stick is a bit much :/

Bobby has waht he calls his "Clinton Anderson Stick". It's a 1 inch wide round piece of PVC with a plastic bag attached to it. Haha.

I think they've kind of really taken advantage of people in the horse world. You know how some people can be so depserate to fix a horse or to find some way to bond & everything. I think it's awful how much those people can charge for their equpiment, books, DVDs, clubs, & clinics.

I honestly believe if they cared so much, they wouldn't charge so much. I'm pretty sure they can afford to lower their prices on stuff. Just my opinion.

ANYWAYS. Some of the stuff they say makes sense, but mostly to me, it's spending the time with your horse. Which I plan to make an effort to do.

I think you pretty much nailed it shepherd. They are way too concerned with the money. BUT they got there for a reason, they do know what they are talking about. So I think the best thing is to take tid bits from various trainers and mold them to your individual needs And the most important thing to me, and you too I think, is having a relationship with your horse.

I can tell that you haven't had a chance to read through The Bonder yet. I strongly suggest this for anyone & everyone who wants to get a closer relationship with their horse. It changed how I communicate with every horse that I have the pleasure of working with.

When you do get to read The Bonder, you will understand that bonding is not just about spending time "hanging out" with your horse. Your horse could care less whether you are there or not. What your horse DOES care about is safety, food & shelter. It takes a leader to be able to provide this. The horse can find these things with the other horses in the herd, or it can find these things with you. When the horse comes to you as its leader, when the horse is looking to you for safety, that is when you have truly bonded with your horse.

Read through The Bonder a hundred times before you do it with your own horse. The information is so valuable, and it is easy to understand. But you have to fully understand it before putting it into practice.

I agree, some makes sense, not all this chick does parelli clinics in MN and she charges for everything and won't teach you unless you have the essential equipment (carrot stick and all) she charges for coming to your place (which I completely agree with) and charges a facility fee on top of the lesson fee for you to come out to her place is that wierd or just me? I am firmly believing that molding it to fit your horse would be important. I think I might look on ebay or something and find a cheap used parelli book and see what I can learn from it, my thoughts are if I can learn something new it will be worth the money

I can send you my parelli book if you would like goldie

And one book I think everyone should read is by Monty Roberts (he is AMAZING) and I think it is called 'The Man Who Listens To Horses' or something like that. I bought it when I was very young simply because he had the same last name as me and it was about horses. I read it finally a couple of years ago and it is life changing IMO. I don't think he has any sort of fame thing like Anderson and Parelli and such...

GottaRide: I tried using the email method & it didn't work.

goldiesmom: That really doesn't make sense. But they're all out to make money.

noreinsL I READ THAT BOOK! When it first came out. It was the same time the "Horse Whisperer" movie came out. I remember that. He trained all kinds of horses. And was totally old school. He worked on a Hollywood set with James Dean! I remember the picture. HAHA East of Eden was the movie.......
