Boarding Stables?

I'm going to have to board my horse somewhere for the first time soon and I was wondering what is the usual price range? It will be self-care (nobody's feeding MY baby but me ) all I want is a stall and a pasture. Any boarders' words of wisdom would be appreciated!

Hmmm I dont know about where you live. I pay $200 a year for a paddock a shelter, a stall, tack room, hay room. And then you can use the gelding, mare and foal, or mare pastures, outdoor, indoor arena, round pen, water well and trails. But you do ALL the work, your place is your place, feed, clean etc..... But its great!!!

Depending on where you live it varies. Here in SE Pennsylvania it's really expensive like 350 to 500+. You also need to view everything that is included for that price. The ones I listed are with lessons and everything included.

I started writing that post thinking of boarding rates and ended it thinking of leasing horses. No lessons are included, but turnout feed, care in general, and sometimes stall cleaning are included, that's without vet, dentist, farrier etc. It's pretty ridiculous in PA.

I pay 220 for a paddock with a covering outside. That's about the cheapest in my area. In CA it varies a lot though. Anywhere from 200 to 600 around here.

My 220 is a really good deal though. We have 4 diff kinds of arenas, a round pen, a cross country course, cows, and access to lots of 'trails'.

Boarding is crazy in our area, too. People paying as much as $350 per horse for small, dingy stalls, the "privilege" of cleaning these stalls themselves, mediocre diet, and little turn out. It's a supply and demand world...

It really depends on where you live, the prices vary a lot. But, check around at a bunch of places, even if some are barns that you wouldn't even consider, that way you get a true idea of what the going rate is in your area.
Some questions to keep in mind:
What kind of turn out do they have?
-Does it include blanketing if needed?
-Do you provide feed, or do they?
-What is the riding situation - can you ride any where, is there certain times that you can't ride, do you have to clean up the arena when you are done (if there is one) i.e. manure removal, drag the arene, ect...
-is there someone one the grounds 24/7?
-Do they have a barn vet and/or ferrier?
-What is the water situation? (do you haul water, auto waterers, communal trough)
-What is the policy on vaccinations?
-What is the stall cleaning procedures?
-Do you have to pay to store your trailer? Tack? Hay?
-Do they allow stallions to board?
-Can you pay extra to have someone feed when you are gone?

When we used to board my horses before we built our barn, we payed $600 a month for each of them. Most of the barns around here are $500+.

We only pay $350 for full board, and daily turn out.

Clean stalls with straw bedding. Pretty much free choice hay and feed /grain fed twice a day.

Vet services and dentist available. Farrier in usually once a week.

We use have a 1/10 th of a mile track and indoor arena.

It's a great place to board. We are like a big family there.

The local indoor arena/barn charges $550 + gst for a stall and a run...use of the indoor ring and feed. There really is no turn out unless you REALLY want it then you can turn your horse out with their horses.

I paid $350 for full board at my last place, now I pay nothing cause Im back at my Dad's. Lucky me.

we pay $250 a month which is cheap. most pay $500. this includes a good sized box stall, the horse is always outside in a paddock with a shelter except for upkeep of the paddocks or if you take him out, hay and grain that they do, tack box, 50 miles of trails(some on the property and some on the neiboring state park, indoor arena, lake with a small track around it so you can take your horse in the lake. you have to clean the stall but your horse isnt in there much. also they make the appointment with farrier, floater. so you sont have to be there all you do is pay. also they order all the shots and wormeres just pay. basically its great if your a first time owner like me so some things you dont have to worry about. the owners live on the property, plus there is someone at the barn 24/7. instead of blanketing they just feed more hay in the winter.
