Blue Lotion-- update below!

I've been to the store now about half-a-dozen times to get some antiseptic or antibiotic or something for cuts and other wounds. Each time I get overwhelmed about what to get and wind up getting nothing. Then this morning, Midnight turned up with 2 big gashes on her leg. Apparently she was rather frustrated at the new pasture arrangements, which involved Buck and the other two mares being in a separate pasture from her and Dante, so she made different arrangements by tearing down the fence and inviting Buck to come over. At least this is what we have deduced must have happened, since she's all cut up and Buck has no injuries. So I went back to the feed store and this time I just had to make a decision. I got something called Blue Lotion. Is that good?

It is ok, but it burns like h*ll, so watch yourself when putting it on I like SWAT or calm coat.

Seriously??? I stood right there in the store and asked the lady if she was sure it didn't sting and she said absolutely not.

That woman told me she put it all over her dog when he got beat up by another dog and that it didn't burn a bit! I knew I should have gone with one where the label actually SAID it doesn't sting, but none of them looked like the best as far as the antiseptic properties. I should have asked her what to get before I bought. OK, so is she likely to kick me or anything when I put this stuff on her? Anything special I should know as far as technique?

If your worried about a kick reflex, stay as close to her flank as possible. If she kicks out she won't have any puch behind the kick when you are that close. Worst thing she can do in that position is push you with the leg.

Can you hold her leg while you apply it, just to see what her reaction will be? Also, a lil birdie (doc) tole me that it may not sting the horses/dogs like it would humans because we have more sensitive skin, which I never even thought about to be honest!!!
Did you get the one with the lil dauber on the end? Oh, and it will stain your fingers/clothes too

Yeah, I got the one with the dauber at the end. Maybe I'll enlist the farrier to help when he gets here. I'll let you know how it goes!

OK, it seems that Blue Lotion doesn't sting the horses, or at least not very much. The only reaction we noticed was that her flesh involuntarily quivered for a few seconds after the first application. My daughters and I, however, seem to have suffered the worst effects, as we and our clothing are all purple. What a mess! You were definitely right about that part.

Oh, and the farrier didn't show up!

it doesn't sting or burn the horse. it is also great for speedy healing.

obviously, it will sting if you decide to use something intended for animals on your own skin.... ain't that right spyro? lol

hope it heals nicely
