Post Blue Eyed

Hi everyone! I own a 7 year old paint gelding. He has a crystal blue eye on the left side and a brown eye on the right side. But both of his eyes always water and the build up starts to form under his eyes. I put fly masks on but that doesn't help wither I even tries a clear eye solution and that hasn't help eitehr if you have any tips or ideas that would be great. Thank you!

It's probably being caused by an allergy. Contact your vet.

Anything to do with the eyes should be looked at by your vet. It could be an allergy as Dawn stated or it could be the beginning of conjunctivitis (which is very contagious)What color is the drainage?

As long as its clear, its fine-just like dogs. They get eye build up too. So do we, we just have hands to rub it away.

The fact that it's clear just means that there probably isn't an infection. There is still an irritation causing excess watering.

My old mare was a blue eyed cremello, registered Section A Welsh. I had terrible trouble with her eyes, but only in the summer. She couldn't stand the sun, and I have it on good authority that true blue eyes, not a wall eye has we call it over here, don't have the ability to reflect the sun as well, a bit like Albino people. She did have conjunctivitis a lot, but this wasn't the contagious form, just one confined to her eye colouring. I used to keep my home made fly fringe on her, which had extra tassles on, this not only prevented the fly hassle, but cut out alot of the sun light on her. I tried using one of those mesh all over fly mask, but she just freeked and ran into the fence (waste of money). If the discharge is clear, she might have a tear duct problem, it doesn't have to be serious, if the discharge is green or yellow, then it is proberbly an infection. No better advice than the vets. Tried all the oitments for conjuntivitis from the vet for horses (similar to those used for us) Chloromycitin (might have spelt that wrong), none of them worked, then one vet suggested trying one they use on the cattle, called Dry Cow, yep, it worked, but I had to use it every Summer. I used to clean her eyes, with warm water which had a tea bag in it, old remedy, but it does work, and managed to keep her comfortable. God this pony had problems, but she also had ME.

Dawn.
My horse kind of gets that. Every day when I visit her I have to wipe the gunk off (it is just some translucent white/buff). Almost every horse I have seen has that. We have it too. Are you sure it isn't natural (it isn't a lot, just a few drops)?

If it's just a few drops, it's natural. If it's running down the side of the face, then definitly get a vet involved.

Horses get irritation in their eyes just like us. A speck of dirt, piece of shavings, fly mess, all of it can cause the horse's eye to water. Just like you. It is the horse's natural defence to stuff in their eyes.

Could also be allergies. With my horse, he sounds like he is dying. Coughing, sneezing, eyes watering...just like me on those days. He has similar allergies as I do. But it can freak others out cause it sounds like something serious.

Anyways, if it is just a few drops here and there, next time your vet comes out, just ask. If it gets a funky color, call him sooner.

Good Luck!!
