Blood in Vulva in Term Mare

I'm going crazy with foal watch and my mare is at 331 today... she's had blood in her vulva and the vet came out Monday and checked and said all was fine with the baby and the mare, but there is more blood.. anyone ever had this?

My mare is a maiden and I've been keeping a close watch on her, I thought she was going to have it two days ago and now she's just looking at me like I'm nuts.. gotta love foaling season!

The last time my mare had some discharge she aborted a week later...I called the vet and told them what was going on and one of the vets said it was normal...apparently it wasn't.

But since the vet came out and checked her out and said she's fine she should be ok...I've never heard of that happening though.

okay - you can probably rest easy ...

Are you seeing a discharge that is a darker colour? Like a brick red colour?
Puchi Trap does the same thing and I SWEAR its blood from her vulva as well, but what it is is a discoloured, opaque discharge mixing with manure bits and it turns a brick red colour ... and you'd SWEAR that it is blood. It sure looekd that way to me as well ...

Now - if you say that it is a bright red colour, it is possible that it is blood are if you are talking a little bit, it may well be a small broken blood vessel as she is stretching and getting bigger and bigger down there!

If your vet has checked and says all is well - rest easy - she will most probably be fine!

Thanks for your replies.. no blood yesterday so I hope that you guys are right and it was just a blood vesel

I managed to finally get enough milk to use a predit a foal kit and it showed two squares meaning she's probably a week away, so that's fine with me and I know for the first time last night I slept like a baby!!!!
