Blood in mare's milk

I have a friend who has a mini mare (who is due within a week) and the last two weeks of checking her milk we've noticed blood in it. She has a little knot at the end of her teat. Don't know what to think of the blood in her milk. Any ideas??

I would *think* its one of 2 things ...

If its hot enough where she is and buggy, it might be a bug bite that is mixing in with the milk or - her udder is so big she has popped a small vessel (which I really believe is what has happened) and there shouldnt be anything to worry about ...

Good luck - hope that helps!

i would ask a vet since she is so close to foaling. it would be nice to know that it really isn't anything to worry about rather than have to worry.
