Hey now, some of us Southern CA natives (such as myself) are in hoodies if it's under 75* even with the sun out

LOL, it is -4 degrees here right now...

You never know with these darn horses.

I agree that if you are worried, please call a vet.

I've never heard of 30 degrees being cold, aha. It's summer here right now and it's about 30 degrees and I'm absolutly boiling! lol anyway, about the nose bleeds..
I was at the barn the other day and walked past my horses stall and noticed there was blood dripping out of her nose. I wiped it out and it bled a bit more but eventually stopped. I'm not sure if it's the heat, or the air being so muggy and dry. It's hay season at the barn and the dust is flying around everywhere, so that might be a factor. I've checked for a cut but there seems to be none. Did you find out what was wrong with your horse? My horse got another nose bleed while I was riding her. It was boiling hot that day but we were only going for about 15mins...just curious to what may have triggered the bleed...would anyone know?

30*F is cold. 30*C is quite hot!

Low humidity can increase the chances of a nosebleed. Some horses have an increased risk of bleeding during exercise - EIPH, Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Hemmorhage, common in racehorses. Even the "right" bump on the nose can start one.

If they are frequent, I would have the vet out sooner rather than later. The worst cause is from a gutteral pouch infection - usually easily treatable when caught early, but if it progresses to the point where it degrades things, the artery there can rupture and the horse will bleed out.

30F is about the same as about -1C (32F = 0C)

I would think that there is a good chance that your mares issues (nasal bleeding) now are linked to all the dust and pollen in the air now. Turr had bad nose bleeds during the summer months due to allergies/super sensitivities to dust, pollen, mold/mildew, smoke - you name it and if it could get in the air, he had reactions to it from mild to extreme. He already had advanced COPD when I bought him and was on meds almost all of the time - different ones some seemed to work better at different times when different 'stuff' was in the air. Muggy days he was usually better as the moisture in the air helped to keep down the amount of 'stuff' but we had few of those days as were were in a major drought and had many forest fires (several quite large) in the area. Winter was his best time of the year once the barn was closed up and not much outside air got in (unless some fool decided to buy cheap moldy hay and would bring it into the barn).

I would call my Vet and talk to him/her about the bleeding - especially if it continues - there are meds that might help. Much better to catch something before it is major.

I would definitely call the vet - better safe than sorry.

We had a horse that flipped its head up just randomly in it's stable and bashed the top of the stable door. It was not low or anything, he just flipped his head REALLY high. He smacked his nose on the door and blood started pouring out. It was going everywhere though, so was a much bigger flow than your horse's. But it could be something like that. Check for lumps, bumps, cuts - anything that could indicate he's smacked his nose or head on something.
The horse at my yard who did it is fine now, he hasn't suffered at all from it.

My mini mare had a nose bleed once, and it turned out it was from heat stroke. She was in her stall and my neighbor decided to start cutting down trees right next to her without at least letting me know I should move her. And she freaked out in her stall. She got so worked up she gave herself heat stroke. Once I got her out and the vet said to rub her down with ice water to bring her temp down, the bloody nose went away.
Just my experience with a nose bleed, I couldn't tell you anything else about them though. Sorry. I hope it clears up and never comes back.

we had a old horse whos nose would bleed from time to time, had the vet look and he said it was allergies, it usually happened in the summer time.

but I would still call the vet , it might not be the same as my horse
