I don't think anybody (civilian) truly understands what it means to serve the country. How much you must give up and sacrifice for others. What exactly it feels like to give up simple and complicated things.

I don't just have to 'go to Japan' or deal with 'deployments'

Imagine never being the #1 thing in your husband or wife's life. Always knowing that something else was more important than you. That something else would always be able to call him to it in the middle...
