The Training Journal: one way street

Posted 10-27-2008 at 12:03 PM by Berlunz
So the boy had friday and Saturday off due to unforseen circumstances. Friday I came home, went to the couch to sit down for a few mins and woke up about 5 hours later, when it was dark... Saturday was just sooo busy. No time at all to ride. Sunday however we got back into the swing of things.

Haltered up, saddled up, round penned with no issue. Pulled him in and got right on without any issue at all. We have stopped the get on/get off/get on/get off. Since he has it down perfectly...

Okay so he actually had day before yesterday off, mostly because I just did not have the time. I decided Bon needed to be ridden and so I rode him and there was just no time when all was said and done, to get on Whiskey. But we did get on yesterday.

I was warry about haltering and tying based on the fact that he had got his halter caught last time. I decided to buy Bon a new halter and give Whiskey his old one and it worked out well. Bon is now in an x-large halter that slips on and...

okay so it feels a bit weird posting these daily after looking at the blog front page. Does not seem like many other blogs are getting the daily boot up... but its still something I want to do. Whether or not I am going to be able to stick to it, well, thats a bit of a different question.

But yeah I knew it, I knew something would happen if I left him tied on his own. Oddly enough I didnt even leave him tied for long this time. But thats at the end of this so better start from the...

The Training Journal Entry

Posted 10-21-2008 at 12:14 PM by Berlunz
Okay so this is entry #2 for the journal and this one needed an entry all its own as this is going to be a daily thing. I just did the big one for the last part to get caught up to this point with the minor workings leading up to yesterday.

So yesterday I decided to try things a bit differently. I had been messing with him with his halter and lead and the lead tied/clipped to either side to act as reins. I did NOT want to have a bit in his mouth while mounting the first time as he...

Okay I am doing this as a way to keep track of progress and look back and even to analyze my own actions. I have started to break in my 2.6 year old and this is going to follow basically his training.

Okay so this is getting started a bit late. We pulled him in a month ago because he injured his back legs and realized it was probably about time to start laying down the simple stuff for him. He had the ground rules set up good as a baby. So he leads, ties, halters, loads, walks in a...
