First off this has been brought up like 6 times before on here? It has been argued those times as well and one of the many things that needs to be brought to the front is that INTERNET PETITIONS ARE NOT VALID. They are NOT any good at all because there is NO accountability. So sign your internet petitions away all you want but its not going to change anything because they are not in any way useable.

As for euthenasia and then using them to feed people or animals. That cant happen either if you "humanely euthanize" a horse its corpse becomes contaminated with chemicals and can no longer be consumed. There is a reason slaughter houses dont just give in an "humanely euthanize" its because the horse meat cannot be tainted since its going to be consumed.

Onto the real issues here... Honestly its not fair to say "If you dont want them to die then you should adopt". I couldnt afford another horse that doesnt mean I cant say I dont want them to die. A matter of opinion shouldnt come down to put up or shut up. However if you're going to complain about the method they are using then come up with SOMETHING ELSE. Come up with a viable solution to this issue that has not already been used and failed. Thats the situation the BLM is facing right now, they are backed into a corner with only one exit they can see at this point. They are not evil men cackling in the corner planning to kill the pretty ponies roaming the bright green fields. These horses have no room on the range and serve no purpose other than to "look pretty" and "be majestic" because they are "a part of our nations history". Sorry, but since when did looking pretty, being majestic count as a right to something more than any other animal on this planet? On top of that since when should we care so much about our HISTORY that it jeopardizes the present?

I agree history is not to be forgotten or ignored, but you cant sacrifice the future for the past.

Lets really look into this and break it down... the US is in a decline the meat prices are skyrocketing as well as hay and gas and just about everything else. The area the horses occupy could be used to have cattle ranched on but instead they allow the horses there and on top of that people complain that there shouldnt be cattle out there grazing, they believe it all belongs to the horses. Sorry but those horses ARE NOT native to most of the areas they were released into and they are DESTROYING the environment they are in. They are not any better than the cattle, but oddly enough the cattle contributes to the economy where as the horse brings it down. The cattle numbers are very easily controlled and the horses are not but can be controlled as well but oddly enough we make money controlling cattle numbers but we lose it controlling the horses. Not to mention you are adding tons of horses to an already bottomed out and unstable market that is flooded with domestic horses who are better bred (in most cases) than the blm horses and are in often cases better trained and have better personalities and are easier to maintain as a pet (not as easily spooked etc). There isnt room for these horses in the wild and there isnt room for them in the market anymore either.

So the anti slaughter people complain and shout that horses shouldnt be slaughtered but rather humanely euthanized... well thats what they are doing.. and yet we get more complaints? Perhaps its because these horses are still semi healthy horses but when it really comes down too it its survival of the fittest not romanticism about owning a "wild and free spirit" that wins. The healthy domestic horses are going to be chosen over the healthy wild ones just because they are more fit for riding and general use. They are still horses yes and I am not saying they cant serve a purpose or are horrible awfull animals... but when a business starts to run out of money the low men on the totem pole are the ones who are going to get booted first.

Honestly I think this is about the best you could hope for... these horses are going to be put down in about a kind a manner as there is out there. They arent going to be slowly starving or violently slaughtered. I am not saying its necessarily something I want to happen or something I like but in reality considering the situation I think the BLM is doing the best it can and its the best we can hope for at this point...

As for the birth control it only takes 1 stallion to breed enough mares to cause problems. and controlling the mares is more costly than controlling the stallions so you're essentially wanting to suck tons of money out of a country that is in decline to put a bunch of mares in a herd on birth control... yeah I can find tons of things that would be better to spend my tax money on...

Honestly in my mind right now I am questioning whether this is really going to possibly be the end of the wild mustang (at least for a while). But honestly its not like we cant get them back.. heck you can make your own just turn your horse out on a bunch of property with some other horses and dont touch it for years and let it breed like wild and run out of food and slowly starve (haha weird thought but when normal citizens do this with their horses its looked down on and seen as abuse but when a government does it its seen as majestic... yeah...). The horses in the wild are all domestic descendants (save for maybe one or two herds I believe). These horses are very easily recreated unlike more specific breeds. But seriously if the herds cannot be sustained then they need to be removed because its just creating a giant black hole and you can always bring them back when things are better and we can sustain them without issue. Also in case some people didnt know many many many people breed certain breeds of mustang such as the Kiger mustang so its not like the "breed" will be lost if the herds are removed there are still plenty of them alive and well and being bred out of the wild.
