Yes, but even You'll have to agree ... the contracts WERE NOT In Place before the horses were there!!!
And why in the name of the Creator would we put some business "contract" ahead of doing something right??

So who has the right to the land??
The horses??? .. or the cattle???
I should think it would be the first occupents of the land.
(but hey, lol, Native Americans were under that same misconception)

They are not going anywhere so we need to get over it..
"WE" need to Get Over It???? ..erm .. Excuse Me???
How dare You tell Me, or Anyone Else, that WE Need to Simply Accept what You say as fact ... or accept what the government is doing!!
... What We See As WRONG!!!

So Far, I think I still have the "Right" to choose NOT to accept what the government says is right ... or is fact!!
(sorry ... the government's got a well earned reputation for colouring "facts" to suite their own best interests, and Doing Exactly what they want, as opposed to what the people want )

But here's a fact that I don't think anyone can argue with ...
Once again it all boils down to the almighty $$$
And keeping the cattlemen happy is More Important then a bunch of wild horses.

But Hey!! .. it's the government's way, innit??
To do what ever is more profitable?? ..after all, government is Big Business!!
Cattlemen pay for the grass their cattle eat ... horses don't.
And let's not forget, Cattlemen Vote ... horses don't.

Yup, I've also eaten horse meat (a bit stringy and sweet for my taste)
But the fact that I've eaten beef, or horse meat ... doesn't mean I think every cow born should be eaten, nor do I think we ought to go out and round up Every Horse and put them on a plate.

Your point??

From the other thread:

Montana alone makes the following from grazing leases per year:
Quote:

The statewide stocking rate for grazing land on 4.3 million acres averages .26 AUMs per acre or a total of 1.11
million AUMs (2006 DNRC Annual Report). 2008 statewide grazing land net revenue was $7.238 million on
4.078 million grazing acres for an average income of $1.77 per acre (2008 DNRC return on asset value report).

So if you remove the grazing leases, the state LOSES over 7 million dollars in income each year that HELPS to manage these wild horses.
I could not find the numbers for "Clouds" area at the moment, but they are relatively the same when factored acre by acre. This is also part of the tax base for the states to fund MANY programs. What does taking away part of the multi use option for public lands to turn them over to the horses get you? No income to keep the public lands public. The state/federal government would soon have to start selling land to recoup the income lost from the leases. Be careful what you wish for or you just might get it.

well Cloud's band has been rounded up ..
So there's some more land that will be available for BLM grazing permits.
...now ... if we could get all them damned Indians rounded up ...
Just Think how much More Land would be available!!!

Wrong on SO many levels

Clouds band has NOT been rounded up and there are NO grazing leases on the Prior range. Please see link:

http://www.pryormustangs.org/mustang_blog.shtml

It really does help to have factual information, rather than emotional outbursts that are nowhere near fact.

What difference does it make WHAT she eats???? We are discussing Cloud and his herds survival and what should be done with them.

Stick to the subject and some facts might get presented right or wrong. Derail it with what she eats, and we'll go off on another direction. Happens in the slaughter threads all the time. Trust me....I've experienced it a LOT here!

Yes, I'm anti slaughter, and also anti rounding up Cloud and his herd.

Just because, if you are going to complain about a problem (cattle grazing) then IMHO, you shouldn't be supporting it.
