Blister update. *I'm going to go bald soon. LOL*....**Pics and new update**

Here's the current update.

Vet sent off blood, we did skin scraping, everything.....the issues that are new (hair loss) IS directly related to his Iodine sensitivity. It hit him hard the vet said. But it is the only thing that is showing that makes sense with bloodwork, timing, and the symptoms.

He is still balding (just not as fast). But no more "blood dots". Just really "Dry" skin where the hair has come off. He almost looks mangy, but there are no scabs...just dry skin

One abcess left that I am seeing, and it is beginning to receed (not busting). We are hoping it doesn't, as he's had enough "holes" on his body the past 6 months to last a lifetime.

All joint swelling has receeded nicely. Which was directly related to the iodine sensitivity. So is the hair loss. Vet says he has no idea HOW bald my horse will get. The damaged ones will continue to slough off, but we shouldn't have any "MORE" damaged ones than already done.

Liver enzymes are still elevated (believed still to be PF related since it has come down slightly, but still up)

BUT, my poor horse is going to look like a bald rat before the winter is over. I need to go reblanket him (if I can find his stupid blanket again....took it home to wash it just in case of rain rot, and it got "STUFFED" somewhere)

It is snowing, cold,

His weight is coming up. He is now BCS 4.5, vet calls it more than a 4.5. But ribs are still showing so wont' call 5 yet. But they are "dissappearing" nicely.

My barn is driving me nuts. We have a few new people and old people who are getting down right nasty.

Currently my vets get calls DAILY from people at the barn, so does the BO. AC has been out I don't know how many times now. (they are getting to know me nicely now). I have notice on the BB with a FULL explanation of what is going on, current treatment, and stuff JUST to help ease minds (and try to reduce the phone calls)....but no one cares to read it I guess (though several of the packets have dissappeared).

UGH, I hope this ends soon. He is in high spirits though. Him and Sage went at it over the food yesterday. He actually stood his ground and finally went after her when she came over to push him off the food. (She refuses to sit at her own bucket....must go around and DUMP them all, munch on all, then settle down at one and finish eating).

Anyways, there's the current Blister Saga Update.

I'm at work so I better get off before they bean me upside the head.

Great news Michelle. I'm sure his summer coat will come in and hide all the bald spots. I can't wait for the "Blister needs a topline" thread in Training.

nope, got the surcingle ready for him as soon as his "ribs" go away and the weather cooperates. Vet said as long as he's healthy weight, just start working him as long as no "open" abscesses are anywhere near the girth area or any other equipment related area.

Said WORK Those abscesses out if necessary. Since he isn't "lame" anymore. He's good to go as soon as I am ready. (I"m using a fleece girth cover to protect the bald areas)

But yeah, he isn't going to just "SIT" anymore since the shoulder abscess is drained and sealed.

and all the iodine related swelling is gone.

(this weekend if the ground aint wet, I'm showing one girl that you CAN double round pen. Blister knows how, going to teach Sage. Really neat too. Send one in one direction, one in the other....stop one, stop the other separately. Talk about "Getting clients" with that one. LMAO)

I hope that his hair grows back fast (talk about adding insult to injury!)
Ugh, you'd think the other boarders would notice he was under vet care sheesh.

Poor Blister, Bald Rats are UGLY (my neighbor has a hairless variety, ugh)... BUT I'm sure once he's fully back to par, he'll be his handsome self again and at least new coat will be coming in soon

And MY neighbor has one of those Hyperallergenic CATS! Poor thing is just freaky lookin, and although its a real lapcat and loves to be petted, its hard to do and not feel freaked out because theres no fur! BW, the amount of dedication and fortitude that youve shown is nothing less than Stellar. I only wish more Horsekeepers truly had it.

Boy you have been through the wringer with this...you would think that the other boarders would see that you are treating him, and that you have the vet out for him....Hey, put a copy of your vet bills on the bulletin board, maybe that will shut them up....here's hoping that he is on the mend for good this time...Cathy

It must be sooo frustrating for all concerned that these silly people don't bother reading what YOU have taken the bother to put up for their ease of mind.

poo on them, who cares what they all say. Once blister's back up and ready to go i bet they'll all shut their big mouths.

I suppose being bald is better than being covered in abcesses! lol!
