Thumbs up Blister update 7/11 - improvement & pics #21

I emailed Michelle this morning because I hadn't seen anyone else update us, and here's what she had to say (reorganized a little).

Quote:
Good news, he's still eating, lapping some water...and still kickin... Bad news... nothing has changed since yesterday. Didn't get worse or better. I'm going to go check on him to see if I see any differences.

My "usual" vet is comforting at least. He was at the clinic today, chatted with this vet (they are friends), and told me he wouldn't change a thing on the current stuff. As well as reassured this vet that I'm good to my word, if the bill goes in the 5000+ range, I'll get it paid, from hades to high water. And reminded him, that if he needs a tech, I'm a willing person, especially when I owe money.

So hopefully that will smooth things out, cause he was snippy about how expensive it just got, and apparently, he didn't think I was ready to spend the money... It wasn't the money, it was if it was WORTH it with Blister, if it was going to kill him regardless, I won't do it. (Like the trache... there are more issues on the BAD list than the good list... so to me, it is not an option...)

I haven't kicked an email to the colleges just yet, but I've got a few emails to send to.

Though I have decided, he's going to get an extra MEAL .....when I go out, I'm going to give him grain. They have him on SafeChoice....however that didn't do a very good job last time he lost weight. And I've discussed it with several people around the area.....as long as whatever combo he gets is consistant, he should be fine....so they can give him safe choice twice a day, and in the evenings (since I know when his last feeding is...somewhere around 3pm.....) I'll give him the Granuline something or other....12% protein, 12% fat....he bumped up on it nicely....and as sucked in as he is getting, I will try my darndest to keep those calories at his disposal.....

I met my new farrier last night. I LIKE him.

We talked about Blister's possibilities if he is foundering in 1 foot, let alone all of them... He is going to go out there in about a week, and if Blister is still trying, going to get x-rays and start working on the feet before things go anymore south with them externally, let alone internally.

He was great with Sage, he did a good job, even though she was being a witch... (Better, but not where I want her to be just yet.)

And the first thing he asked with Blister, is x-rays... THAT got me hooked, right there. The others I've talked to haven't even mentioned them. He comes highly recommended by BOTH the vets I'm working with.....so that is good. And he works with the vets, talks to them, before touching the horse!!! I likey!!!
Finally, a reminder in case you haven't seen it: Buddies for Blister *come here*.

Well, talked a bit more with both vets on 3 way just a few minutes ago....

The head, is being caused by the Purpura.....and the limbs by the vasculitis (combination of both really overall...)

I looked it up in the Merck....and check out the pics... Merck Veterinary Manual His face matches!!! HOWEVER, his bloodwork doesn't. His platelets are good.

Been surfing and plan on continuing when I get 5 minutes throughout the day... Things that describe Blister at their best.....
Vasculitis
Anasarca or Purpura Hemorrhagica

Found some sites where someone dedicated to a horse from it....2 weeks.....is the average i'm finding before they go down....(we hit 2 weeks this friday.........makes me very nervous....)

Hey, do me a favor, as if anyone has used "RAPID RESPONSE." I'm finding success cases with the swollen faces and limbs, that were on it.....

Just talked to Michelle. After our consultation ( LOL) she's going to go on with the Rapid Response if she can find it and give it a try. She's been finding more information of cases where it was used along with other things and the horses lived. So it's worth a try as it can't hurt.

Her spirits are holding as good as can be expected, but she cried when I told her we are almost up to $600 in the Blister Buddy fund, so everyone who has contributed in prayer or with what you can, you have been a blessing to Michelle already!

Keep praying folks.

I personally haven't used RR, but personally know 3 people who have used it with GREAT success, and 1 with "eh" success. I think it's definitely worth a try.

Didnt realize there was another update thread. Thanks Ches

I have heard nothing but positive about the Rapid Response. It wont hurt to try it, that's for sure. I am so glad that he is still eating and drinking. That alone speaks huge volumes.
Tell Blister to keep on trucking and give him hugs from FL. Also tell him that the Gators are NOT in need of a new mascot so he can go ahead and get rid of all the swelling.

New update...
Quote:
Actually, change up. I'm going to try Equipride.
Similar product, local. Something I can get into him tonight as it is in stock locally, price is about the same....

I've still got to talk to my vet about it, since it "boosts" the immune system...if it is counter productive....(both products do...)
