Blister Saga Continue

Ok, here's a new thing we are LAUGHING so hard about.

went to a friend's arena. She ropes and stuff, and is helping me get Blister started so we can do some team roping next year. Something new....

She has this roping cow thing, with a go-cart motor. her brother has a remot control for it!!! it is SOO Fun. Course getting blister near it is even funner!!

it is off, guy pushes it. COOL, no problems. Turn it on, Extreme Fear and almost busted the fence. Remember how I said Blister doesn't bolt? SPOKE TOO SOON!!! ROFLMAO. Turned RIGHT around INTO the fence. ....hit his head in the process. Did he care?? NOPE. The BUZZING Black and white cow (it has a cow skin on it too) was going to eat him, momma or no momma! Once under control again (they had to shut the cow off) we worked a bit without it on. Turned it on again (Made sure we were at the other end of the arena.....) and snorting and pawing began. He did NOT like the buzzing cow. I was laughing so hard at him, I had a hard time keeping my seat. Poor thing.

By the end of an hour, Blister is in a dead sweat (haven't MOVED) and the cow thing has gotten about 10 feet from him. He took a step, they backed the cow off. OOOO.....Ears perked up at that moment. He took a step TOWARD the cow and extended his nose....cow took off. well, he didn't know WHAT to do, so I gave him rein, and he started following it a bit.

So we shut it off, unsaddled, turned him loose with it in the middle of the arena while we went and showered (had a company party to go to.)

Came back, he's KNOCKED it over. Used it for a rubbing post. LMAO

Guess he's ok with it now. When we get back from the holidays, we'll play some more.

I HIGHLY recommend the motorized one! it is a BLAST. Well, it was with Blister anyhow!

From now on, i"m setting up a dang video camera. My husband was LAYING on the ground laughing so dang hard. He told my friend's hubby that the only reason we keep him is because he's "entertainment" (bs, he's more than that, but oh well)

Just make sure that the "cow NEVER charges at him, make him get closer as the cow is moving away. Than make the cow stop, let him walk around him, turn the cow, and make the cow walk AWAY from him. You may already know that. Sounds funny though, sounds like my horse when he first saw it. He was able to touch it with his nose by half hour though.
GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, that was what we were doing. When the cow approached him, it was slow, as quiet as they could till he started acting up....then stopped till he was quiet again.

He LOVES chasing. So we are hoping he'd make a good rope horse as well. Trying to get him going in various events. Katie turns 5 this year, so I have a little bit before she starts competing in 4-H (which is what we are training Blister for mostly...that and I'd like to have a good roping horse if nothing else...)

Does your local 4H offer goat tying?

I am sure they do as you live in Texas. I bet as outgoing as your children are that Katie will be all over goat tying.

I hope so. In January, i'm going to look into the local 4-H. Since she turns 5 in March, someone told me that at 5, they can start. Not handling animals, but the basics and such. I didn't get the privelage of 4H as my parents aren't "country folk" and such. But I want it for my kids.

Every year I go to a Youth Rodeo put on by a 4H club about 2 hours away.

It is the best rodeo ever. I events start at age 5. ON HORSES!
They run(walk, trot) barrels, mutton busting, rope dummies from the ground, anything they can think of a child to do. It is the best event I attend each year.
The day events are followed by an adult rodeo.
The kids are so cute. I have never seen one hurt. Not one time. The parents are so good and pull for every child.

I am co-sponsor of our local 4H and our local agent looked at me with raised eyebrows when I told them about the youth rodeo I attended. I asked if we could hold one?
He said liability would be an issue. I asked how the other 4H club could do it? He was going to 'check' on that. I knew from his tone it would never fly here.
I wish we could though!
Next year I plan on takeing Cutter for some of our youth to rope from. They were roping from there barrel horses. Thay was a show in itself. No box to work from, no barried to worry with. They just turned the calf out of the chute and had at it.
