Is this a choose your own adventure or are you going to tell us what we're looking at? Either way, the poor guy looks ouchy. Is it Pigeon Fever Round 6: The Return of the Stubborn Virus? I sure hope your vet gives frequent flier miles... you could probably use a vacation in the Caribbean by now. |

I left work at noon. Hadn't seen the horses in a week at least. Go out, and sage walks up to me. Says hi. And blister stands there. I go, hey, saw one of the hocks...and went...Who kicked you? Saw the other leg Went what the heck did you get into Saw ALL 4 LEGS! At that moment, I panic'd. Called the vet. He's out of town. Knucklehead Called the other vet that I use. THAT knucklehead can't come out. (and he did apoligize for it after seeing blister crawl out of the trailer) However, it was a good thing we DID go TO the vet Cause his gums were bruised as well. Attempted to load up....you know the saying, don't kick a dog when it's down? well, getting blister in the trailer involved touching those legs because he wasn't moving. Butt rope, NADA. he hurt WAY too bad. Don't know how long he had been standing there, but he had a pile that was several hours old. one of the workers came over and helped. He pushed on the legs gently, since it "hurt" and unfortunately, it was the encouragement that was needed to move this 950 lb horse INTO the trailer. Got him in, he almost fell out because he hurts so bad. And got to the vet. Cindy's phone bill will be higher this month.... Vet came out, took one look and said he's staying. Hadn't even gotten him out of the trailer, but Blister is getting a weekend stay at the vets. Ran tests, and sometime, from when he got in the trailer till I left, his nose swelled up. His nose is FULL of blotches!! Basic diagnosis.... Vasculitis WHY? After running tests, ruling out VS (and he had no blisters in the mouth), Strangles, etc.... He has HERPIES!!!! Yep, Viral Herpies. But not the one that everyone got quarantined for on the east coast. This is the "OTHER" one. I didn't dig at that point. I was still shaken up and he was running around, getting meds for him and several other clients at the time. SO, Weekend spa treatment includes Lasix, Dexamethasone, and bute for his 103 fever.

This was a hyperventilate, freak out, call vet, CALL CINDY!, Load horse, run to the vet, hyperventilate some more, CALL CINDY!, run tests, CALL CINDY!, wait for tests after being told all sorts of scary possibilities, CALL CINDY!, get test results, CALL CINDY! and finally go "whew, it's not horrible, but not good. Then go home, vet calls BW, CALL CINDY!!! Blister is in my prayers big time!

THEN about an hour ago....he calls me....his nose swelled up where they had to put shunts in so he can breathe.....he collapsed, one of the techs heard him go down. He was OUT. Few seconds later (according to jared) they had the shunts in and he was back up again.....
