I started my tank with Rosie Reds since they are "CHEAP"

I threw dirt in there. Bought water plants for the bottom.

turned out to be nice.....plants multiplied, fish multiplied had a brick at the bottom for "shelter". they like having a hiding place.

koi are really fun!!!

I've actually had a plecosamus (sp) in my tank once. He was like an inch long when he went in. When I dumped the tank he was 4-5 inches!!!!

Never had a horse Eat one. did have a mustang that went "bobbing" for fish

And fish will commit suicide if the nitrogen is off. (jump out)

I overflowed the tank and they stopped trying to kill themselves.

How big of a tank do you need to put fish in it?

Bleach is OK in small quantities, we put a few tbspoons of bleach in our two 55 gallon barrels we keep for emergency potable water in case of power outage. It keeps it slime and bacteria free and both we and the critters can drink it.

I think fish are fun in a big pond or a huge tank, but goldfish are very dirty fish, and I think with a small tank, you're better off just dumping it and cleaning it once a week or so.

Mine was 100 + gallons

I've had small fish in 55 gallon trash cans for water before

My old land lady had a tank full of Koi that was similar in size to the one you posted....

The CHEAPEST way to keep algae down??????

PENNIES!!!!

Yes, pennies. Learned this in my microbiology class, tried it in a fish tank and it worked. Thought why not in the watering trough, YEP, worked there too. Use pennies made after 1982 when they started filling them with zinc instead of copper. The zinc reacts to keep the algae at bay. As to exactly how many, I am not sure. We had 1 in a 10 gal. aquarium and now have about 5-6 in our 150 gal trough. Works like a charm.

For Koi or large gold fish you should do one fish per 20 gallons. More than that and you start having nitrogen problems.

Rule of thumb for a
I had a pleco in my artificial pond too.He had to be about 9 inches long when he died.

rule of thumb for aquariums is one inch of adult fish to every gallon of water.

Koi and gold fish get to about 12 inches long or more so 1 fish per 10 gallons at the most. I would probably do one fish to each 20 gallons though.
