blankets

Do you use a blanket in the winter? And do you use a turnout blanket and a stable blanket? And what is a good brand of blanket that isn't too expensive? I'm going to be getting my first horse soon and I want to know what to buy...

I dont blanket, I let my horses grow their natural coat, and I dont clip either. Where I am, we dont get really, really cold winters, rarely do we drop below -5 degrees celcius. Will your horse have a stall to go in and out of? Unless your in extremem weather conditions, you clip your horse or you have a weak immune system problem, I dont think you will need to blanket for the winter.

I don't blanket but I have a waterproof sheet for when it rains.
My sheet is Weatherbeeta and I really like it but it won't fit every horse. I have already tried two brands on my TB and neither fit.

I have two blankets as my horse has a thin coat. I like sky park and weatherbeta rugs.

I never blanket my horse. I let him grow his winter fuzz and keep him in at night and in bad weather. If your from Louisiana you shouldn't have to blanket.

I blanket my old mare because she's old, thin, and doesn't get much of a winter coat, but it is a light water proof blanket.
Scout also has one now because he just got body clipped (trace clip)

Sometimes during the winter it freezes at night, or just gets cold. I'd like Sugar to stay warm and toasty. I'm not sure about whether she'll be in a stall at night or not. I just want a blanket for nighttime, since that's the only time it gets really cold. The barns I've ridden at down here use blankets at night.

I only blanket my two horses that i show competitively like on the paint and owha circuit.....my other horse i dont blanket becus he just trail rides now and is retired but doesnt need one cus he is healthy and always plump lol but if he hard a hard time keepin on weight i would...also my horses are in stalls alot during the winter.....the only reason i blanket the show horses is becus it can be very hard to get them to shed out by the All American Youth Show without blankets.

In Winter she wears a woll-lined canvas which is really snug.
