Blanketing & Lights Question :)

I tried searching and couldn't really find much to answer my question.

So here I go-

I am SICK of body clipping mid/end of winter to get my horse smooth coated for the first show of the season (April)

Skip is already fuzzy, but I am wondering if I can start increasing his light exposure in January (gradually adding on every day), start blanketing, and have him shed out by April?

Will this work or should I just give in and body clip?

I am like you - my solution was to put up two flood lights on either side of Timmy's stall (where he spends most of his time) and keep a light stable sheet on him. His neck is already fuzzy, but when I brush him, he's still shedding - go figure, it's November!

But when I think about last summer's shed out, I cringe and am thinking of putting an ad out to get a professional to clip for me. I don't have clippers, or I'd ace him and do it myself!

I'd say, put the lights up now - I don't know about where you are, but it's pitch black here at 5!

Put him under lights now. 16 hours of light and 8 hrs of dark. Since he has already started to grow hair it will take a good 60-90 days to get a good coat with the lights. Next time if you want to keep a good coat always make sure that he is under 16 hrs of light (daylight or artificial) all year
