Do we know if Aloha is homozygous?
I don't think he is but hopefully Jill can say for sure. His only foal is bay out of a chestnut mare. I do think I recall Jill saying he does fade in the sun whereas Redwine does not.

Thanks I knew his sire was heterozygous but I don't have a clue what color his dam was.

Nope. Pretty sure he hasn't been tested, and I don't think any foals yet.

Off topic, but how was your trip to Canada? Any pics you can share?
Excellent!! Special Effects was the most wonderful tour guide EVER! Everybody was very nice and helpful despite us barging in on them.

I haven't edited pics yet. My hard drive is about to explode (it's too full) and I have to write off a bunch of CDs before I can edit anything. But I warn you, I only really got pics at True Colours and they were very candid photos (I'm not sure she'll even want them shown, I'll clear with her first). I got some very nice ones at Special Effects of Gatsby, Ripley, Madison and Truffles though.

I'll try to get to them this week!

I don't think any of the pics from the inspection turned out very well. Or well enough to show to people. She's cute, a lovely mover, correct & had a great temperament. The owner's ~7 yr old daughter was leading her around & doing things with her at a strange barn with lots going on. The filly never batted an eyelash and she was just 30 days old. I can't wait for his first full crop next year.

ACC, see above, Aloha has 1 foal on the ground. Sounds like you had a great time in Canada! I can't wait to see pics when you get to them. I really want to see the pics from True Colours if Donna gives you the ok to post them.

Ok... I do have ONE photo done. I think it's cute as heck and I love it. It's going on my wall. But I still want to make sure Donna is ok with it (it's a horse... and it has a wittle mud on it... oh the HORROR ).

We have a mare who tests EE but has some tinges of brown in the flank. Another of our mares is black as night, but tested Ee.
We are often surprised at how differently some horses display, compared with how they test.
Incidentally, we have seen one test returned as EE from a popular testing company, when we absolutely knew he was not.

Could it be a sweat fade?
Definitely sweat-fade Mine does this too in the Winter - untested but I really think black, fades reddish where the saddle goes. You can see it jusssssst starting

What does her Agouti status test as? She could technically be EEAt? - brown but homozygous for black

Yep, which is why EE=non-fading isn't valid as was once thought

Referring to the EE/Ee deal?

Did you call for a re-check on that? I have a friend who tested a filly for Pearl, and the test came back that she was. Turned out they'd mis-typed the results

Black horses can appear brown and brown horses can appear black to even a trained eye.As I said somewhere else - No ones eyes are a DNA probe - .Check the agouti statis if you are interested in the horse. Discuss the horse with the owner instead of the on line self professed color experts.

^^^A little harsh I think^^^ I think that regardless of if we 'know for sure' there are a lot of discussions brought up by this subject that people can learn something from. Just saying....
