I was wondering if you guys liked them at all. I was thinking of getting one for my mare. Please post if you have something to add. Sorry- I need to add a poll, but it will not let me. Choices were going to be "Like it" "Don't like it" or "Never used it". Wonder why the poll isn't working???

I like the idea of them, but I have heard that some types are not as gentle as people would like to think. I toyed with the idea of getting one for Smartie, but decided against it in the end - she is so soft in the mouth and listens so well to her loose ring french link, that I reckon I couldn't get much more gentle than a french link which barely needs to be touched anyway. Please let me know how it goes if you do get one - I'm really interested in them.

I use Dr Cook's bitless bridle exclusively on an older gelding who has dental problems. He loves it, I love it! I have used it on two of my horses and they both do well with it. |

I have never used a bitless bridle because my mare would probaly be to hard headed to listen anyway but I like them and if I ever got a more responsive horse I would want a bitless bridle.

its like any tool or training device. Use it moderately and correctly and it works great. Use it with rough hands and it will still be abusive. That said, I have a Dr. Cooks Bitless that I love. I use it intermittently, though, because it is a little tricky to get proper collection with it. However, I know a few dressage trainers that swear that you can collect properly with it, so maybe I'm just missing something. Also, if your horse doesn't have a tight stop, based on seat cues, or verbal cues, sometimes the horse will walk right through the "not-bit". Once my mare got used to it, I found her to be very light and responsive. Also, it converts to a halter, which is very convenient on the trail. Also, a great choice if you let others ride your horse and you don't want his.her mouth getting messed with.

Well, what do you guys think about using it on a horse that you are breaking? I am saddle breaking my mare and was thinking of getting one for her, but am unsure of its effectiveness.
