Best pad for sore backs?

I was looking at pads to relieve pressure off of withers and back, because I was thinking that would be uncomfertable...I dont want a sheekskin one. I was thinking this is possibley a good canidate?:

What's the deal with his back?

If it's sore, don't ride.

i'm with JbandRio, WHY is his back sore? that first needs to be adressed.

I have a thinline that i believes really helps with my saddle that doesn't fit 100% perfectly.

however, you are going to pay much more than $18 for a quality pad!

Its my saddle. I am getting a new one tho, and when I get my new saddle I want to have extra protection. He is NOT sore right now just when I rode him in the saddle....

We've just been talking about that pad on another thread? If you have a saddle fit problem, that pad isn't going to help you or provide much 'protection'.

What is the saddle fit problem?

OK - there's nothing wrong with this pad for a well fitting saddle, but it's not therapeutic necessarily... it will not help distribute weight more evenly or provide a lot of shock absorption or anything.

Ok, so, your old saddle made his back sore, but it's no longer sore and you no longer ride in that saddle - yes?

Ok, given that, then your choice of pads will be somewhat dictated by how "just right" or "a bit too big" your saddle fits. The more "just right", the thinner the pad HAS to be or it will become too snug.

the more "a bit too big" it is, the more options you have as far as something like thick sheepskin, or one of those thick polypads, or the like.

More like if it sore, you need to check the fit of your saddle before building up pads. Is there a dry spot when you take the saddle off him. If so that is an indication that it isn't fitting properly and is pinching him.
