Beneful.. Please Stop Feeding It

I just wanted to point out an article we got the other day at work. We actually arent even aloud to sell it anymore till this is all fixed, which we dont mind since we would like to get rid of it all together.

Urban Legends Reference Pages: Beneful Dog Food

I know some people may know about it, but Im not sure how quick its going around. So if you have friends and/or family using it please tell them to stop till this is all solved.

Just wanted to point it out since I work in a pet food and supplies store and it would be terrible to see more dogs dying from it. Just something that could really be prevented if you get the right info.

Thanks for the heads up, I don't feed that brand to my dog, but I will pass it on to my family members who have dogs, I don't know what they feed their dogs...Cathy

Beneful is not a great dog food at all. and now they have all these problems too. Alot of "great brands" (IAMS science diet ect) really are not that great either.

Yea I know that already. Im just posting it for others to see. Remember, I work at a pet store and care about my customers, so Im always getting everyone to switch to SP or hol. foods. Mine even all eat Solid gold right now, which to me is pretty much the best before homemade.

*edited* And actually anything with advertising, your paying half for the quaility of food and half for their advertising expenses. Yes they are sometimes cute or funny but your the one paying for them.

Actually KIRKLAND brand SUPER PREMIUM dog food is a fantastic quality food... It is Royal Canine's Holistic blend, which is mfg by Diamond.

Here are the ingredients of teh SUPER PREMIMUM Chicken, Rice and Vegetable Formula (I feed a bag a week to my 8 dogs here)....

Chicken, Chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, cracked pearled barley, chicken fat (mixed with tochopherols and Vitamin E),egg product, beet pulp, potatoes, fish meal, flaxseed, natural flavor, brewers dried yeast, millet, potassium choloride, salt, choline choloride, carrots, peas, kelp, apples, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake, dried chicory root, glucosamine hydrochloride, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamin mononitrate, mnaganese proteinate, manganous oxide, chondroitin sulfate, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium panthothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochorlide(vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid.

Calorie content 3,754kcal/kg (362kcal/cup) Calculated Metabolizable Energy.

They use all human grade ingredients and not chemical preservatives.

BELIEVE me, I've feed top winning show and breeding dogs for over 20 yrs now.... I do my research VERY carefully. I have been VERY pleased with the KIRKLAND SIGNATURE SUPER PREMIUM Adult Dog Chicken, Rice and Vegetable formulation.

I have also feed Canidae, Royal Canine, Pinnacle, EAGLE, Canine Caviar... I switched from Canidae to this almsot 3 yrs ago now and have not had a single regret. My dogs weight and coat condition across the board is fantastic.

AND the price is VERY reasonable for the quality of food... $17.50 for a 40lb bag... COSTCO volume pricing/buying power and they don't advertise their own lable at all... They buy the right to lable a quality product and ahve that company make it for them (in this case, Diamond food, using the Royal Canine Holistic formulation.)

SO unless you truly know what goes into the dog food itself, don't be TOO quick to call it 'poor quality' just because it's a COSTCO branded food.

They have a chicken and rice formula and a lamb and rice formula. My dogs all do well on the chicken... Mom mom's German Wirehaired Pointer, we do have on the Lamb formula as he's got a sensitivity to poultry protein.

Between my own dogs here at the house and my puppy people I know are feeding it, we have about 33 dogs on it right now and all are doing really well on it.

I was a HUGE (and still am) fan of Canidae but when you feed 40 lbs a week and can find a food that is also quality ingredients and similar in formulation for literally 1/2 the price, and your dogs do really well on it, well..... for me it's been a no brainer .

Of course NOT 100% of all dogs will thrive on one food, hence why there are many kinds and if I do ever end up with someone needing something different to suite their system, they'll of course get fed that food but when I can find one that works well for me and saves me money TOO... well that's just a BONUS

No problem... I have truly spent my entire 40 yrs of life in dogs and we started out feeding CRUMMY food when I was a little kid... Then bumped up in quality to Kennel Ration biscuits, which was one of the best in the 70's then in the mid-late 80's went to Iams and Eukanumba (which used to be high end food!!!) then by the early 90's I was feeding Eagle, then the mid 90's I had moved on to more holistic formulation foods....
