before Boarding...what should I say?

Well, I have made a couple threads, and as some of you know I might be moving into the texas area...probley somewhere around Baytown.

I have listed some trainers, that I will be calling tommorrow.
What are some things I can say to where I do not sound like I do not know what I am talking about, and though I do, I normally have my trainer currently talk to the other trainers, but its my turn,

How does this sound so far....

"Hi, my name is _____ _____. I am looking for a place to board my hunter/jumper ___________. I am also intrested in training. Do you train interediate riders? I am competitive and would like to go to shows. Does your facility offer this? How many horses are located at your barn? Do you have an arena? Can I ride without having you there.?

Well...thats some questions so far... also.... how can I compare one trainer to another. I will be going and looking at the facilitiies many times, but as I am in Louisiana I cannot really see what is going on every day...until I get there with my horse....so...help me!

Katie,

Without seeing a facility and meeting someone how can you know that you would even be interested in boarding at their facility. Often people can talk the talk but not walk the walk.

I would call and ask if the do boarding and lessons. I would ask about their jumping facilities... I do not think you want training but you want lessons for you on your own horse... Is that correct?

Once you know if the place has all of those things then you might want to check them out in person. Have you done a google search for what you are looking for to see if anyone has a web site in the area you are moving to?

Also why not post the information here... and there may be someone on this board that is familiar with that area that might be able to help you out.

Yes you are correct I do want lessons not trainig, excuse me
But, I have gotten these names from* my trainer, and honestly I do not know that much about them. I will be over there most likely sometime next week, but I most likely need to schedule an appointment so someone will be there when I arrive.
I have done more then 1 google search, and have also founf a couple places, in which I have called. I have made a thread that if anyone lived in that area, and if anyone had an suggeestions. I got 2 responses, netiher one of them lived there but they gave me a couple of ideas on where some nice places are.

I would be around the Baytown area in Texas.

I would ask questions about the facility, care, if training is required (here most of the H/J barns require that you put your horse in training, regardless), what options are available for lessons, showing opportunities, and anything else you will need. Once you're satisfied, ask about arranging a visit. You'll want to be honest about your abilities, goals, and interests while finding out about the services offered. If you are wanting to interview instructors, talk about their training philosophies to make sure they won't push you to compete when you don't want to or whatever. Hope that helps.
