I guess I have been fortunate in that the ones I have fattened up have done so pretty quickly. Sally was already needing to be put on a diet by three months in Than again, she is a range horse and they can stay fleshy on rocks and weeds.

I will keep watching for her updates. She is so pretty, I just want her to be done already
She fits in perfectly with me because I have a high metabolism too! I wish she was an easy keeper seems just about all our horses are hard keepers

Thats funny about Sally! I'm glad she did so good though and is in a better place!

I too want her to be done already! Its so cold out here now and I know shes not liking it being under weight I'm trying to keep her as warm as I can!

Pecos
Here is a horse that we rescued about 8 years ago. He was on his way to the killers with a really badly injured knee.
We had to lift him into the trailer to bring him home. He was about 300 lbs. underweight.
Our vet told us he would probably not be rideable, his knee was so bad.
We worked our butts off to bring him back. He was such a good boy.

Here he is a year later in the picture that we sent to Purina
for their Senior Feed Contest.
He won at 2 different feed stores and we won 1000lbs of Purina Senior Feed.

Here he is today... we sold him to a young girl for a dollar.
They are in love and she keeps winning belt buckles on him all over Missouri and the midwest.
We found out by accident that he was an incredible barrel and pole horse.

It was tough to let him go... but he's really enjoying his new girl.

UPDATE 10/18/09
Here's some video of him just this past weekend...

He looks really good for a horse that was on his way to the killers and is in his 20's.
They took 6th in the state at this years Missouri State Fair in Barrels and 13th in poles.

A couple newer photos of Sally (post 48) as I did a bit of round pen training.

check out those clod hoppers (hooves) The reason she was being schooled in the round pen, is she was being pretty silly about holding her feet up for the farrier. So these pics were before trimming. My farrier called them toilet plungers...LOL.

After her little schooling, she stood like a champ. Good girl Sally.

Just wanted to share my horse.
he was 1800(heaps)bucks to buy, broke in cruel, headshy, underweight, basically bald from rain scald, never met a horse other than his dam, and spooked when you got on and off him, he couldnt even turn properly.
he's now 7-8, not headshy, he's been ridden by 3 year olds, he likes sleeping or going maniac.
so its been about 2 years since i got him ...
his name is Tanto Amor, previously called Jazz. Didnt suit him.

this is his personality:

Had the same struggle with my mare who was on a near exact diet as yours, with minimal, slow success. I would suggest 'trying' ulcer medication. We decided "Well, it's worth a shot" and I swear she has gained a lb a day since! The most useful $150 I've spent.
