What are the average times you need to run in 4D 3D 2D 1D????? Also is speed the only difference or is distance also different in each level? |

OK! A real question! bow I guess you know that every time I see the topic "Barrel racing," I will reply! The Ds are separated by times only. There is no average time for each because not all arenas are the same size. The person with the fastest time of the day sets the divisions. She would be first place in the 1D. If she runs a 15.0, then they place everyone under her in her division. With this time, the 1D horses would be those that ran times between 15.0 and 15.4. They would start the 2D at 15.5. Whoever ran closest to 15.5, but not faster, would place first in the 2D. Etc. They split the Ds by 5 tenths of a second. The people who fall in a hole (those who do not place high enough for a place and money in the 1D, but still went faster than 15.5) get nothing. Let me know if I have confused you. wink [ April 08, 2004, 06:06 PM: Message edited by: probarrelracer ]

That sounds right. Basically RUN as fast as you can, and you might place in one of the different "d"'s. Thats' as far as I've gotten in the whole scheme of things. I'll let the officials do the math and placings...

I would love a break down in easy to understand terms. I'm going to a 4 D barrel race on May 1st. Hopefully my horse won't be a total idiot. Probably won't win anything, but still would be great fun.

OK, I'll try. All riders compete together in the same class. Let's say they are paying 5 places in each D. The person with the overall fastest time wins the 1D. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th fastest overall times come out 2nd through 5th in the 1D. Then, they add .5 to the fastest time to start the 2D bracket. If anyone has run exactly .5 slower than the fastest time, then they win first in the 2D. The 3D starts with the time that is 1 second slower than the fastest time, then the 4D starts 2 seconds slower than the fastest time. So, the 2D is one half second off of the fastest time, the 3D is one half second off of the 2D, then the 4D is one whole second off of the 3D. (NBHA RULES. Some places split differently.) So, it is possible that 200 people can run 1D times, but only the top 5 would get a check. Then someone who was a half a second slower than them would get a check. It is not necessarily about who is fastest. Also, if you knock down a barrel at one of these divisional (4D) shows, you get a no time. I hope I didn't confuse you more! wink

Ok...so it is usually a .5 second difference between the "d"s... now THAT makes some sense.... The last person that explained it to me left me more lost than I was before I asked the question.

So what if you are entering a 4D race? Who determines that from the get go?? And when people advertise their horses as running 1D times - how do they figure that?? Because they placed in a 1D class?? I am soo confused..................... Sorry I probably come off as dumb but I just don't quite understand - lol! Probably because I am used to entering classes rather than D's....................... |

When you have a 1D horse, it means that your horse usually places in the 1D. Or to explain better, you are never slower than .4 off the fastest time.
